Though you could buy this, fly to Tokyo, visit Odaiba and close your eye's imagining it was 1999 again.

yeah - less retro game and tech shops in Akiba - more Idol cafes and moeblob specialty shops there...

The moment I realised they still allowed smoking indoors was a strong indicator this place doesn't change very often.

That wasn't even too long ago, I'm pretty sure they still smoked inside the taito game center (the good one above melonbooks) in akihabara back in december 2016.

It was still allowed in december 2017 but when I went back in August 2019 they had a smoking room instead. Seems all the arcades are like that now. Suits me but there really was nothing like puffing away after a few strong zero's at the machine.

yeah I don't remember people smoking back in early 2018, must've been banned somewhere around that time.

I got weird looks when I was smoking in the lane way out the back of the hotel up in Sapporo but maybe that was because it wasn't Tokyo.

Not going to NGW was better than going there; if you didn't go, you didn't waste $ and time. NGW was just a super underwhelming amusement park experience; a huge red Ferris wheel outside, some lame roller coasters inside, and perhaps the biggest/most surprising disappointment-no Neo-Geo arcade games inside. In fact the arcade area had nearly no games. I think NGW was this way in 1999 as SNK were headed into bankruptcy at that point. Neo-Geo Land 3 in Esaka, Osaka had way, way more NG games. Saw many location tests there in the early 2000's.

I've attached a couple of photos I took of the former SNK building in Esaka, Osaka & Neo-Geo Land 3 across the street.

Within the time I was there Neo-Geo Land 3 got demoed and became a parking lot. Not quite as fun to visit.

Thank you. I'm glad it's of interest. Sorry the pics are pretty crap quality tho. Old cheap film camera from the early 2000's.

Honestly they look pretty nice for the age. I’m impressed man. Thanks for sharing them, I love seeing SNKs old landmarks.

No pics of NeoGeo World though?

Really cool KRONOS, appreciate the post and pics. I get they were probably trying to branch out into other stuff but calling something Neo Geo World and not sticking in a shit ton of cabs in between attractions to collect maximum coinage seems pretty odd.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm happy to share. I just checked and found a few other early 2000's pics I took in Japan that may be of interest. This photo is of a old school metal Neo-Geo sign that was hanging over the Dotombori river in the direction not far from Amemura, in Shinsaibashi. I thought it was cool as shit, but I doubt it's still there though.

Also, some new/boxed Sega Mega Drive modems.. prices in these Japanese recycle shops were so cheap then.

Same SNK Neo-Geo sign as it appeared near Dotombori River.
