On top of that, most of it was due to injuries that took place during the shows and the threat of getting fired if you were in too much pain to perform so many got hooked on painkillers. Some were judgement calls for those wanting to 'fit in' with the wrestling crowd. Get any amount of money and you can always find a dealer in any of the cities and burgs the wrestlers performed. You can Nurture as hard as you can; however, sometimes Nature is gonna take its course.
Drugs did them boys in.
JR has spoken many times on this, even Chris was getting high constantly when tagging along w/ the others to the towns.
Addiction is a motherfucker.
He also pitted his sons against he each other in a sick rivalry and didn't explain to two of them that they had no business in a wrestling ring. Chris was 5'4" with extremely brittle bones and asthma. He had no concept of self-worth outside wrestling because that's the only thing Fritz cared about, so Chris tried to be a wrestler, constantly maimed himself, then eventually killed himself because of it.It is true that Fritz like most parents of that era did not understand the pathology of addiction.
JR has said as much.
