Fitness guru Richard Simmons dead at 76

Eccentric fitness guru Richard Simmons, known for his unrelenting positivity, has died, according to his representative.

Simmons just celebrated his 76th birthday on Friday.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to his home after a 911 call from his housekeeper and found Simmons dead, according to police sources. He appears to have died of natural causes, and no foul play is suspected, the sources said.

Simmons had spooked fans just three months ago when he posted that he was dying on Facebook, writing in March, "I have some news to tell you. Please don’t be sad. I am .... dying. Oh I can see your faces now. The truth is we all are dying. Every day we live we are getting closer to our death."

He later clarified that he was not actually dying, but that the message was intended to encourage everyone to "embrace every day that we have."

The saddest part is he was probably the victim of elder abuse in his final years. He was from the same neighborhood i grew up in. RIP.

Richard was kind of an odd duck and was always a punchline in popular culture but, by all accounts, he was a sweet and wonderful person who helped so many people and gave EVERYTHING of himself to do so. His disappearance from the public eye was kind of strange but it seemed like he was just kind of done and wanted to be left alone. I hope he appreciated how much he impacted people's lives and got to live out his retirement in relative peace and dignity.

Big fan of the guy.

I love people that are unapologetically weird and just love being true to themselves despite the obvious mockery they'd endure.

I think his workouts are shit, but I won't knock the man for motivating tons of people to improve their health.

Listened to a podcast about him. He was gay.

His hair game was on point!

What a roulette wheel-this life.
Eat right, move your body, help others: dead @ 76.

Be a prick, move hardly at all, and smoke stogies: live into your 100s like George Burns.

FTGE.

Shit, was George Burns not excellent? I love him actually. My opinion probably wont change, just like when Wattie Buchan dies no one will change my mind. Interesting to hear though.

nah, people accused his housekeeper of having a tight grip on him and controlling his life. I wouldn't be surprised if all his money went to her.

That's like saying the sky is blue.

Now that he's passed, I think it's a safe bet that there's going to be a lot more info and dirt coming out about his hermit years. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if every last cent was left to his housekeeper.
