Anyone like his stuff? THE PLAYER and SHORT CUTS top my list.

I just heard that from my g/f's law firm (they worked on Prairie Home Companion), a shame. Still, a very full life.

I've not been as hot on his naturalistic style, but I did enjoy The Player. He was willing to take risks, some of which really clunked (Gingerbread Man), I actually did enjoy Prairie Home Companion's almost creepy vibe --even more so now: It was about accepting death.

Not the biggest fan, but The Player, MASH and A Prairie Home Companion all have open invites to occupy space on my DVD shelf (so far only MASH has accepted.)

When I was first told I had him mixed up with Robert Osbourne from TCM (I'd just woken up). Then I looked on IMDB and oh fuck.

it brings on many changes

I love that song

Watch many of his movies. You'll be glad you did.

I still have to sit down and watch Vertigo and Rear Window

I'm kind of lacking with the Hitchcock experience

Damn it! First Palance now this. MASH, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Popeye... so many good movies. He'll definitely be missed.

The way the thread's title reads, it sounds like Altman's been dead for 81 years.

Still, it's sad to see him go. :(
