Sega Game Gear Question

I have a Japanese Game Gear and I have heard that it is not safe to use the same AC adapter as an American one with it (something about it using a different voltage or polarity or something?).

Does anyone here know if that is true? I'm too much of a wimp to risk testing mine with an American AC Adapter.

What is the correct one for it? I haven't had much luck finding any info on this, or even pictures of what an official Sega AC Adapter looks like for the Japanese one.

Here's something I found from googling. Sounds like you shouldn't use a us ac adapter.

"As a general rule: The European & Japanese GG has a larger plug with polarity - inside and + outside. As used on the MD1/Genesis 1 The US GG has a smaller plug with inverted polarity, so + inside and - outside. As used on the MD2/Genesis 2"

US Game Gear can work with a Genesis 2 AC adapter. So can the Nomad.
