Only two more weeks left of August, ain't that a bitch. Making the most of it this past week.
Old village dating back to the 1400s that used to be a military garrison a few hours north of Beijing.
This was a really nice surprise. Came across this old pagoda, supposedly originally built in the 700s. Right there in the middle of nowhere.
Visited another cave. Absolutely massive, and no one else in there so I was left to my own devices to explore. When I reached the end of the lights, there was still a lot of cave left, turned on my phone's light and walked into the darkness for about a minute...nah dawg. Fuck that. Scary shit yo. This picture is still relatively close to the entrance. Alien facehugger eggs inside that cave most definitely.
Visited an incredibly remote village in the mountains that has a history dating back to the 1600s. After the Ming dynasty fell, it was said a Ming bannerman fled here to escape the Qing's executions of any loyalists. Surprisingly there are still some people still living in the village but most houses look like this, just completely abandoned. Kinda sad to think about, how many generations of families lived and grew and died in this house, now it's left to nature.
I walked a few miles down from the mountain, had a few beers and stumbled upon some statue factories. Lots of marble mining in the area so there you go. I love these little surprises man.
Completely abandoned temple in the mountains, built into a cave. No monks, no guards. Saw a bat in the cave but couldn't get a picture. Almost fell off a cliff climbing into another cave. Dangerous place, what a shame it's been left to neglect.
