Yeah saw that over on AP. Apparently the scammer is a Twitch streamer who had the audacity to brag about how he got an amazing deal after ripping of skate's wife while he was in the hospital. Fucked up situation.
What's his name?

I was actually in the hospital at the time, which is actually part of why my wife had permission to sell the cabs. She called someone from forums we both knew, who sent up a buyer that was actually OK but who also brought a dishonest person with him to buy the other cabs, unfortunately. The 2nd kid helped himself to the basement. The one of the 2 buyers made a lot of it right, but, that's not why I'm posting today anyway.... but if it makes you feel any better I did recover at least $1500-2000 in additional payments and ~1000 in goods, but Kiefer took roughly $4000 of extra stuff he will never own up to unless I sue in small claims. That would be stressful for me and the wife since she was actually the one who facilitated the sale, but I do have a pro bono attorney helping if I decide to file. I'm trying to move forward in life as much as I can:

I got a job offer and accepted it! I start a new full time in less than 2 weeks. This is a huge relief since I've been looking for months, had several close opportunities, but just now secured something. And it's decent to boot, I was willing to accept less than what I got, but partly thanks to my friends who gave me referrals and just interviewing well, I got a generous offer for the 1st year, contract to hire. I'll be doing team lead for a security operations center, something I am well cut out for and can make a difference doing. Money is still a bit tight until I get rolling at the new job, but any end in sight is absolutely massive.

Thanks to everyone here for all your support over the last several months, it's really meant the world to me and my wife as well.

Thats good to hear. It makes sense now why it wasn't advertised here.

I would've drove down there in a heartbeat had I known you were letting those cabinets go. Can't believe someone pulled a stunt like that.

He's been sent instructions on how to mail back your neo geo to you without even having to deal with me. I think we know he never will. What a Coward. And our local police were absolutely and completely useless 😑 apparently to them since no receipt was written out for the cabs, that allows him to also take whatever he wanted. They didn't say it in those words, but close enough. I pretty much got told to pound sand and they never finished the police report or returned any calls from the records department.

I am really wanting to leave this chapter behind me. But life is different now, I don't have an arcade collection at all anymore, and my workbench was ransacked to the point where I don't take in any board repairs or chip jobs anymore. Part of me knows I need the time for other things, but it's a damn shame how it got to be. And I LIKED doing that work, but it would never support me as a main job.

I'm really trying to keep my head up, I'm a few weeks in now at the new job and by nature it's a bit stressful. I'm doing well and getting good feedback, but I'm still feeling the toll. I'm hoping the more I adjust and get comfortable the better that will get. In this job market I was lucky to land a good full time gig, and most all the stress and pressure is from myself on myself. I'm sure some of you understand.

It's funny because I was thinking about your situation yesterday and here you popped in again. Just keep a positive mindset, accept that which you can not change, and keep moving forward.

Sometimes I wonder what Police even do really.
I had an arcade warehouse for almost 10 years.
I was renting it from a couple who sold it. (well a dozen acres and several buildings)
New guy seemed OK for a year or two but he jacked the rent up on me several times.
Then one day he told me he found somebody who would pay 2-3x as much in rent.
I tried to get my stuff together but was working 84 hours a week and they kept breaking in and making a mess and ruining the work I did.
A bunch of stuff disappeared too, video games, electronics, stereos, PCB's, tools.
Then a couple weeks later they threw all my stuff outside and more stuff was stolen.

Anyways back to the point, I called the police and they told me it was a civil matter and to sue him.
Even though he owned the building it's still burglary and breaking and entering!
Also he didn't give me any written formal notice, that's kind of a legal requirement.

So I look into suing him and and notice he's got hundreds of cases he's involved with.
Almost a dozen similar to mine that were all tossed out. He lost a couple and then later appealed and got them thrown out.
I contacted a lawyer and he said he knew the guy and if I won I'd need to wait in the back of a very long line.
So I gave up on that.

I got fucked out of about 5,000 dollars last year and something as simple as reminding myself to let it be and just keep going helped out.

i am enraged just reading about this.
Honestly, I would do small claims,. It doesnt cost you much to file. $225 in IL. Most of the time no lawyers are involved. if he is a pro, there's a chance he will stonewall the court and you get the same result as the police. But every time I filed against someone, they broke and tried to make it right.

Fuck me - somehow missed this thread earlier this year. Sorry about all the shit this year, @skate323k137 - that really sucks. I'm glad things are on the up and up (sounds like at least). 2024 has been a shit year for many people I know, myself included.

As for what happened to you at your last job... that was absolute, 100% shit. HR departments like that give HR a bad name - it shouldn't be some boggy-man for employees. I've been in HR a very long time, so if you have any other crap come up feel free to reach out and hopefully I can provide some insight on your options (same goes for the rest of you goobs). Ain't nobody got time for an inept HR department. 😤
