Figured it would be nice to share our collective knowledge and appreciation for this arcade platform in one place. :)

My current X2:
REV.01B Motherboard
Nvidia Elsa Gladiac 979 GS 256MB
PNY 4GB (2x2Gb) PC-6400/800Mhz w/4-4-4-12 cas Latency

I tried booting with a Sapphire X1950 GT 512MB, thinking it may work since it's in the 1000 family like the X1600 Pro that comes in some X2 units, but after the Type X2 loader is done loading the system reboots. Meh, was worth a shot as all these components are cheap. I'll play around with different CPUs in the future.

Got mine on its way.. I'll share details when I get it, but it has a DMAC card for some awesome dual fast IO/JVS action as well :)

You're the man! Do you feel like you gain any benefits from the 7950GT flashed with the bios of a card with lower specs? I'm just curious if said card would be down clocked? Did you do any 3dmark or similar testing before & after the reflash?

Edit: Also, if were to buy like a 7950 GX2 1GB would you be able to reflash it with an Elsa 979 GS bios for me?

I havent done any benchmarks yet, but didn't notice any improvements either. The X2 games are very well optimized. The GX2's take up too much power and gets underclocked by the driver. That was the first card I tried, you actually get a nasty warning from the driver on startup about it.

I'm not 100% convinced that the BIOS reflash is necessary. The driver is a vanilla NVidia Forceware 93.71 driver. Technically any off the shelf nvidia card upto the 8800 ( I think ), should work. I should have tested it before flashing it. They are dirt cheap though, I bought my 7950GT off ebay for like $20 with free shipping. Might buy another one just to test and do some benchmarks.

I have a write up I can share on how to flash the BIOS. Its pretty easy, but you do need a PC with a PCI-E port. I wouldnt mind flashing a card for you or anybody if they wanted. Just let me know.

Awesome info, I'll pick up a 7950 GT 512MB too!

I wish I had a PC, I do have a 979 on hand so the dumping/reflashing wouldn't be too difficult if I had the means.

Edit: Interesting about how up to 8800 should work, but I do imagine an 8800 would give the same issues as the 7950 GX2?

If you wouldn't mind, I'll send you a 7950 GT 512 and you can do the before and after benchmarks. I'll figure out some sort of compensation and pay for return shipping. :)

I wonder if there would be any difference than just upgrading to a 7900GS 512? I could also send one of those if you're motivated to do an in depth comparison.

(Of course I'll test it in the X2 upon arrival and verify that it even needs a reflash in the first place)

I thought 93.71 had support for up to 8800 GPU, but I just looked at the release notes and highest GPU is 7950 GX2. I guess the motherboard or my 500w PSU doesnt supply enough power for it to run efficiently.

Yep, I'll PM you my address and if you need me to flash/test/benchmark a card just let me know. As far as 7900GS 512, I wasnt able to find one.

Awesome Niko, you're rad!
Yeah, 512 versions do exist, just less common.

Anyone got any cool ideas for mods to the TX2 (hardware or software wise) that they wish were available?

Modify the win config in the HDDs to support better resolution &/or better GPUs. Upgrading the PSU and being able to play at 1080p/120 or 4k would be a dream come true.

Intriguing. Had no idea people actually were wanting to play some of these games in 1080p or 4k. This should definitely be able to be done.

Where did you get an X2 for 300? Thinking of getting one now that the hd stuff is out there.
