Pretty f'ing late to the party but Pretty Little Liars has brought me around to The Veronicas. Here, for instance, it's old as shit but awesome, Untouched:

The other one where she's just like whatevs with the spider, jesus.

Over the weekend I finally started (but am nowhere near finished with) the painful process of sorting out my wife's possessions (clothes, books, et.). To help me with these tasks, I revisited some of my wife's favorite albums. It felt like she was working through it with me.

Disturbed-The Sickness
Beastie Boys-Licensed to Ill
Greenday-American Idiot
Bon Jovi-New Jersey
Bob Marley-Exodus
Alanis Morissette-Jagged Little Pill
Pearl Jam-Ten

What the fuck am I missing when it comes to My Bloody Valentine? It just sounds like a whole bunch of distorted guitar noise.... but not really in a good way? Many of my favorite bands are really into them so I must be missing something

Idk, we just loved it back in the emo scene in the early aughts. Great album, imo. I've still seen MBV drag nights advertised here in PGH. Yes, I'm aware that album predates both heavily. Influential I guess?

I know I'm missing something when it comes to that band.

But can we all agree that that fucking Veronicas bullshit is one the worst songs I've ever fucking heard..... And jro, why the fuck are you even watching Pretty Little Liars?

We like what we like, I don’t think you are missing anything. I do wonder if understanding how technically difficult something is affects how you hear it, and maybe consequently, are able to enjoy it. I think the album has a unique sound. Very dissociative. I listen to it when I’m driving or having to do some shit I completely don’t want to do, which is all the time.

The only thing it ever reminded me of was pumpkins, (vocals) but I think it might predate them/or at least same time. not sure. Maybe Cocteau Twins somehow, (which I also like.)

"technically difficult"????!!! Dude, it's fucking layers of distorted guitars, not a fucking symphony.... Do you play guitar?

Yes, Billy Corgan is a big My Bloody Valentine fan

Ha no, All I’m saying is maybe thats how I am able to enjoy it. Years ago friend of mine put on Joe Satriani or something. I remember saying I liked one track in particular and then I was schooled on how technically difficult it was. It just made me realize how we could hear the same exact song completely differently.

I get it though. The closest annoyance for me is probably hearing samples that are way too obvious. I just can’t fucking hang.

Elaborate please?
Sure, If I’m listening to any electronica and I hear the sample of another song I easily recognize I start to think about that other song. It bugs the hell out of me.

Somehow hip hop gets away with it. Probably since the vocals are center stage. But for electronic shit it’s annoying af imo.

It’s hard to believe only three people made all of this noise, with no overdubs.

One of the most physically moving performances ever put to tape. The bassist was in the midst of his first bout with cancer during the recording.

Turn it up loud, and listen with your chest.

Listened to Bree Sharp's first two albums today (The Cheap and Evil Girl and More B.S.).

Very nice, sort of a Cheryl Crow vibe. Just chill rock with a very pleasant voice. She sang the David Duchovny song, if you don't know who I'm talking about.

It’s not a bad album but I agree probably somewhat overrated. I sometimes feel it’s one of those albums people have to like to showoff their musical cred. A bit like this…

A personal favorite from my childhood. The first time I heard it was on Night Flight, if that gives you any indication of how long ago that was.

PS - I'll be surprised if this is the first time I've posted this song on here.

Night Flight ruled back then, and I really enjoy their app today. Many of the old episodes still include the original commercials! You can use the app like a tv Chanel, or a Netflix style on demand.

I saw it advertised a month or so ago, and thought about checking it out. It was such a great resource for odd or obscure music in the era of my life pre-internet. Crom knows MTV would hardly play anything outside of the mainstream.

I'm not sure what it is about this one, but there's something to it. No urge to skip a track. Minimalistic and repetitive, but interesting enough to relisten. Perfect loop for changing out a CV axle, lol.
