Neo CD - SamSho 3

This sticks out in my mind, largely because of the fast loading times.

There are other games on NES I recall - circumstantial depending on who I was playing with: LJN's Major League Baseball, Tecmo Super Bowl, Super Dodgeball. I guess sports games translated well and made good competition.

BlackaneseNiNjA: Interesting list. Since you play all the Ninja Gaidens which is your favorite. I played the SNES collection quite a bit, but always sucked at the 3d ones. Also just started playing The Ninja Warriors cause that music is amazing. Didn't know PS4 had a game

Famicommander: Was the 5200 version of Kaboom better then the 2600? I played the heck out of it on the 2600, but never knew there was a better version.

This was a great thread idea. It’s really interesting to see which games tend to repeatedly appear on the lists more often than not. SNK vs Capcom MotM, Shinobi III, Ninja Warriors, Street Fighter III, Killer Instinct, Streets of Rage 2.

Hell yeah! You can’t go wrong with the OG series :buttrock: Though I first fell in love with the Ninja Gaiden series back in the 80’s with the arcade version, ultimately I have to go with:

Ryukenden era: Ninja Gaiden II (NES)
Team Ninja series: Ninja Gaiden II (XB360)

The latter entry I enjoyed so much that I flew to japan, met the team, and had Mr. Itagaki sign my copy lol:

Ninja Warriors Again and X-Men Mutant Apocalypse are my favorite games on the snes, and I was really impressed with their updated version/sequel. The music produced by Zuntata for the series is always top notch :buttrock: With more characters to master and a release that included the original soundtracks along with remixed updates, Ninja Warriors Once Again/The Ninja Saviors was a dream come true.

Wasn’t the Sigma series just on PS3 and Vita? Never played the PS3 versions but I think they were censored and maybe had frame rate issues?

Ok, I wasn't sure. I played Ninja Gaiden Black on the OG Xbox and played sigma and thought Sigma ran much smoother and looked better.

What's wrong with Ninja Gaiden Sigma?

Sigma was watered down in some places because people found Black too difficult.

Sigma is still better than II or III but Black is by far the best 3D game in the series, and in my opinion the only one worth playing.

This is a man of culture.

Three people here picked Shinobi PS2. Such an underrated classic.

One of those games that says "git gud or fuck off"

Thinking Ninja Gaiden II is better than Ninja Gaiden Black is the worst opinion of all time.

It’s a good thing it’s my opinion and not yours then lol The combat engine in Ninja Gaiden Black is fantastic, but the game as a whole (even on Master Ninja and with the intercepting mechanic nerfed) has a lot of mechanics slanted in favor of the player and is a breeze for me to run through and exploit the enemies. When I play Ninja Gaiden Black on Master Ninja each encounter began to feel routine. UT’s, OTG tech, it’s all fantastic, but the challenge leaves when the enemies have no tools to counter these strings and player tools, etc imho.

Ninja Gaiden II is linear, but I don’t need Ninja Gaiden to be more like Metroid or Devil May Cry 1. I love the series for combat and the exploration in NG/NG Black didn’t elevate the game for me. The addition of more weapons (lunar staff and scythe are still too OP, but weapons like the Tonfas and Kusarigama completely changed the game for me and felt far more developed than the Vigoorian Flails and Dabilahro in NG/NGB), de-limb options that made enemies more dangerous as you fought them rather than less dangerous, UT options for projectiles, grab properties for ground-based combos, and a new Master Ninja rebalancing that absolutely broke the game’s projectile firing enemies has all just kept me coming back since the challenge is always intact if you don’t resort to farming. Ninja Gaiden II’s Master Ninja mode is the reason I keep finding new ways to beat the game and enjoy what it offers. To each their own.

What's wrong with Ninja Gaiden Sigma?

Both Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Sigma 2 add new characters, new weapons and rebalance encounters even further...but removed extras that the Xbox originals had. Though Sigma 2 added new mechanics to the series like arial UT’s (Momiji), it nerfed the violence and many many enemy encounters (the Aqua Capital stage saw the worst of it) were significantly altered or outright removed. The enemy AI routines were also nerfed in an effort to rebalance the game and mitigate the slowdown and performance issues that plagued NG2. Master Ninja was also greatly nerfed and enemy grab damage was increased in that mode in an effort to restore the challenge.

Sigma Plus and Sigma 2 Plus are fun on the road...but the drop to 30 fps and performance issues ensure that they stay relegated to fun deviations during travel but pretty much unplayable otherwise (though Sigma 2 Plus did bring back the gore that was removed in the original Sigma 2 release). Resolution drops and a failure to alter the challenge mode (required co-op on the PS3 version) didn’t help it either, unfortunately.
