Who else foresaw the mediocrity of the Xbox?

Even when the first specs were coming out and the local EB reps were like going apeshit over it and treating it like the next coming! I honestly didn't fall for the hooplah.

I don't know what it was that made me skeptical, but one thing's for sure is that I didn't think MicroSoft had any business in the console market. As a result I've held off on buying the Xbox till now, and maybe even longer.

But I'll have to admit that there's a few stellar games out there for this system that made me gain some respect for MS. Halo being one of them. I can't really think of any other game that stands out and really makes use of the processing power of the Xbox. Such a big shame too. There's nothing worse in life than wasted ability! Perhaps it'll shine in the near future, or perhaps it will succumb to the same fate as the beloved Dreamcast crying

ps. The thing's also bulky and huge and ugly as elephant shit. I guess you can't beat Japanese design glee

Everyone here knows I'm not the biggest fan of the XBox by any means, but dammit, it does have some good games.

Panzer Dragoon Orta
Halo
Mech Assault
Jet Set Radio Future

And of course, CvS2, which I have truly enjoyed playing with my fine peeps here at NG.

Even though it was just delayed, I fully expect Halo 2 to be drop-dead fucking amazing when it eventually shows up. While the PS2 still has the finest selection of games for any next-gen machine, XBox does have it's merits. At least with good online games, the wait between titles isn't quite as harsh. Replay value is the key here.

its big and bulky for a reason.

full size cdrom and hard drive, plus huge ass heatsinks and fans take up a lot of room. its the smallest modern pc i've ever seen.

plus there are some awesome games.

cvs2 is a decent game, but online its awesome.

panzer dragoon orta needs no explination

jet set radio future is teh shit

mech assualt

tj&e3

ninja gaiden is coming soon

ok, so i dont follow new games, but these alone make it worth buying.

hell, if you asked me for games that made the ps2 or gc worthwhile, the list would be even shorter, since i really dont know al the 'new school' games on them, only old series's and sega stuff...

i hate halo.

Yeah, I know where you're coming from, but seriously there is one great game you can get if you haven't imported it for Dreamcast and that's Shenmue II. That game is my greatest game of all time. Ryo Hazuki > j00

There are a few games that are good on the XBOX.Still it didn't make me go out and purchase one.Halo and panzer dragoon are the only 2 games that are of interest to me.I have shenmue 2 for my DC.
Right now the PS2 has all the games that i really want.Games such as Rygar, GGXX and the upcoming VF4: EVO are all cool.It has a great selection of games.

I hate to say this but the GC kind of dissapointed me a little.Aside from the Nintendo games, there is very little 3rd party support.Even some of the 3rd party games that are on the GC showed up on the PS2 and the XBOX.Beach spikers and the RE series are cool though.

Dude, I got two letters and one number for you: PS2.

The thing looks like an aborted Alien fetus.

You have to remember the console was built by Americans, for Americans. We like our shit big, heavy and built like a rock.

Besides, I don't think it failed in Japan for cosmetic reasons. They didn't want to US invading their turf and the Japanese can be pretty fucking loyal.

Chimpmeister, that was funny as shit LOL. lol
You got a few points there with the Gamecube. True there aren't that many games for it. But considering I got mine for basically $50, hehe, I don't mind it one bit :D (I got RE zero and Metroid prime as promotional items for it, HELL YEAH, SCORE!)

Metroid Prime's the shizzy and is breaks the 1st person shooter mold. But some of the controls made it a little less than perfect (Target Lock on is crap and was there for so the little snot faced kiddies can play wink ) . But you have to consider that it's exclusive for RE, and Ikaragu will come out for it.

I thought that the system was too cheap looking and could easily fall apart, but if you hold it it's very solid, even rivalring the mighty Dreamcast!! Plus the small discs are cool as shit.

Xbox got all this processing power with only like one game to show for it. And it's unnecessarily huge and ugly.

And Nintendo will and should always be part of the console market. IMHO

Japanese people don't have room for a console that big in their 1 bed room aparto.

IT'S HUGE LIKE GODZILLA!

And besides, it's not made by honorable Sony.

Xbox and Gamecube are both pretty mediocre. They've both got some top notch titles...but overall, they don't deliver a complete solution.

For that, go to the PS2.
Oh wait, according to sales figures worldwide, you already have.

Never mind.

Damn Right!! MS had no business going over to the console market. wink But they have proven that they can contend. It is their first foray after all.

What I don't get is why there aren't more PC ports coming to the Xbox? Initially they said it was going to happen and very reasonable since it's the same format. Baffling.

If I buy an Xbox, it might also be useful as a taco stand. Mmmmmm, I love me some tacos.

Technically, it's their second, as I think they were involved in the MSX, which had some no-name games like Metal Gear made for it. wink

Xbox is many things, but mediocre definately isn't one of them.

Home to some incredible exclusives, like Panzer Dragoon Orta, DoA3, Mech Assault, JSRF, Halo, etc. The best versions of multi-platform titles such as Tony Hawk 4, NBA2K3. Online console gaming done right. True HDTV support, including 1280x720p games (MY GOD!). Only console to offer in-game DD5.1.

Best 'current' console available, IMO.

Sony is far from honorable, they are more evil than MS.

If you ask me I wish MS and the Xbox would hand Sony their fucking nuts on a silver platter. Despite the whole anti-American power thing the Xbox is actually dishing it out FOR the players right now with shit like online gaming and nobody can dispute the fact that it's the most powerful system out there right now. I wish the roles would flip flop and decelopers started releasing all their shit on the Box and the world became a better place because of it.

Fuck Sony and their POS system.

BTW it's pretty impressive that MS and their Box managed to grab the number 2 slot despite basically being a single region home console (and by single region I mean pretty much only putting up the numbers here in the states).

Blah, I don't give a shit anyway. Only system I own is a DC. buttrock

Not enough people give credit to Splinter Cell. Fun game, good story, I haven't had problems with the controls, and damn it, it even looks nice. (Then again, the best looking moments are when you barely see anything. IE: Fisher creeping through the shadows when you can only see his NV goggles behind the guard)

What, is everyone waiting for the ports or something ? :(

And why do people hate the big design so much? This isn't supposed to be a Gameboy for crying out loud. It's gonna sit in your living room, game room, etc. And you wont lose it in the sofa cushions like the Gamecube wink

And people can't say that X-Box is just another PC. Oh look, PS2 has The Sims. And hell, even N64 (ahh, nostalgia) got Starcraft, one of the biggest PC games around. I'll believe you the whole "X-Box=PC" when we get bombarded with ports of Rollercoaster Tycoon and Deer Hunter (or Turkey, or Boar, or Bikini)

But I'm still hoping for a GGXX port. I remember they (at least there were going to) port GGX to the PC. That's the same thing as the X-Box, right? make_fac

on all the systems anyways.
but i do pick up the xbox ones anyways since i favor
the xbox pad a little more.

OK, have you compared the size of Neo carts to an X-Box system? Take 2 or 3 Neo carts and you have roughly the same amount of space taken up. As such, I hardly feel size was the issue in Japan. It all has to do with it being foreign made. They do enjoy our jeans though...

My laptop, with 15" screen, is still not as large as the X-Box. Maybe next time M$ will use laptop parts instead of desktop parts?

Ever tried gaming on a laptop? It wont exactly cut the mustard. Especially since you're not likely to get a good graphics card in there.

PS: Someone had to do it.

That wasn't really my point. My point was that the X-Box didn't have to be as large as it was. Maybe when they do a redesign they'll start using laptop parts instead to cut down on the SIZE of the X-Box?

And yes, laptop gaming sucks big fat hairy peepee.

I'm just dissapointed that most of the multiplatform games are not even coming close to using the full power of the Xbox.

Theres no reason for DoA 3, Splinter Cell, and Halo to still look better than most of the rest of the stuff out now.
