Here is a beverage that I always enjoy with Cuban food. Makes me miss southern Florida...

this looks good, and it reminded me of my favorite apple soda:

manzanitasol.jpg

it's actually made by pepsi. I drank the shit out of it when I lived in San Diego:)

Unrelated, but have you ever been to the Coke museum in Atlanta?

Everyone in this thread owes it to themselves to go at some point, if for nothing else than the grand tasting room.

Kegs of every single coke product from across the world.

The stuff they sell in Africa, Asia, its amazing. Really great. And the dispensers shoot the cola in a huge arc (15 feet or so) before it hits the funnel to come to your tap. Great stuff.

I tried Moxie...once. Just like Zeni said, it starts off alright but the aftertaste is something that can't be described. I've had friends ask me what it tastes like and the only thing you can really say is, "It tastes like Moxie." I've seen videos on Food Network of MoxiFest where people cook with it. I shudder to think what a desert cooked with that stuff would taste like.

I'm a huge Ginger Ale and Root Beer fan. From the north east, here are my two local favorites:

From NJ: Boylan Bottle Company

From CT: Foxon Park

Feeling under the weather?
Have a cold or a fever?
Sip a cold glass of crisp, Foxon Park Pale Ginger Ale.

Made with all natural ingredients like real sugar, Foxon Park Kola will challenge any of the big guys. Stomach feeling uneasy? Have a glass of Foxon Park Kola!

My all time favorite (when I can get it) is from Los Angeles:

Reed’s Extra Ginger Brew is the same recipe, but has 26 grams of fresh ginger root for a stronger bite.

@Popcorn: I need to go on that Coke tour. I bet it's killer. I can finally buy some Mexican Coke up the street. Love that real sugar cane. When I was in China, I thought it odd that their soda's are so much different. 1. They drink them room temp (and only in small shot glass sizes) - talk about wanting a Sonic Route 44 Slush! 2. Their soda cans are almost solid steel. You can't bend'em for anything. 3. Their Red Bull is not carbonated. It's like drinking syropy water.

@OMFG: I love Boylan's! Everytime I go to NYC I make sure to get some. Good stuff man!

@SetaSouji??: Actually I think the record shop is Horizon Records. Hadn't heard of Earshot. I need to check them out.

The stores where I live currently carry a couple kinds of Reed's. I love it.

Reed's also goes great with whiskey.

Do want those fruit ones on the right. Never seen them before.

Had to post this again. I love the passion this guy has. You can tell he loves what he does for a living. I'd love to open an east cost branch so I could try some of that cucumber and rose sodas.

We get Cheerwine and Sun Drop here. The Cheerwine in bottles is GREAT. 100% cane sugar.

The Dr. Pepper in Texas was the best though. Dublin Dr. Pepper is awesome. Mexi-Coke is still my all time favorite.

I could never get into Boylan's root beer, not sure why.

I met him when I visited the store, he's really nice.

My wife got me into this one from Germany. Mezzo Mix is pretty much orange soda mixed with cola, but it's surprisingly good.

A fun ... fact(?) about Slice.

Up until a year or two ago--perhaps three?--there was a Slice machine outside the grocery store around the corner from my apartment. All the flavors. It was odd to me, especially since the machine itself looked like it was a relic of the early 90s. I go look up Slice on Wikipedia to see if it's actually widely available and, sure enough, I see at the bottom of the page something along the lines of:

"As of 20xx, the only still-functioning Slice vending machine in the United States is located x miles from Abita Springs, LA."

Which would mean that the same machine by my apartment was the very last one. I don't know if that's true at all, and it's since been replaced, but I still think it's pretty neat.

The store where I work use to do a carbonated Mexican key lime drink and was the most refreshing drink ever, stopped doing it now though.

Hah, that would be pretty awesome.

And I have had bottles of Abita from my local road-side soda specialist (you can't spot it, but I video-recorded the store earlier this summer)

I love soda. I am addicted to soda.

I cut back my consumption big time earlier in the year.

I typically just drink a Mexican Coke on friday when I get off work. Nice end of the work week deal for me.

I feel the same way. Some people I know think I'm crazy but I just love soda. I used to live on the stuff but now I think of it as a treat. Fortunately for us, we have a few stores in the area that carry the "good stuff"...some of my favorites:

Mexican Coke
Throwback Pepsi
Boylans birch beer
Virgil's root beer and cream soda (holy shit, their cream soda is insane)
Heritage Dr Pepper (now gone) and Dublin Dr Pepper (also gone, thanks fuckers at snapple)
Reeds ginger brew (wow...seriously...amazing stuff on a hot day)
Jarritos lime

That's all I can think of at the moment but I would like to add that a cane sugar Squirt would also make my day...

How'd I miss this thread?

Here's my favorite obscure soda, I dunno if it's local. But I think it’s only made in Mexico, hence would be hard to find out of the Southwest. It's basically extremely carbonated apple juice. They sell it in cans at grocery stores here, but you can usually pick it up in bottles at local Mexican convenience stores.

---

Another fruit based soda. This stuff is also easy to find locally.

A truly unique tasting soda, kinda tastes like an extremely sweet and carbonated wine.

---

I dunno if these are nationally distributed, but these sodas are sweet as all hell. Easy to find here, I'm very curious if they are everywhere:

----

NOT local to me, but I'm wondering if this stuff is big in Michigan. I love this stuff and would like to find it in bottles. Help, anybody?

Probably my favorite soda of all time, it's carbonation is off the charts.

Thought I'd bump the thread with this:

http://www.pepsiamericas.com/Story/...ohnson-City-Gold-announces-conte08102012.html

Mt Dew Johnson city gold. A new malt flavored dew sold locally only at Kroger stores...scored a 6 pack today.

I must admit, at first I was not sure of the taste...malt and mild citrus...mildly sweet...

I first thought I didn't like it but by the time I finished the can...I really do quite enjoy it. It's like an adult soda or something. I'm glad I scored a 6 pack.

With that said, there's no way in hell their will sell well...straight up dew fans will not like it at all, beer drinkers won't like it either. I'm pretty sure this is doomed to failure. For now, I'll give out a few cans to local friends and pick up another 6 to enjoy from time to time...

This looks awesome. I bet it's horrible, but still awesome. I have a cousin up at ETSU...I'll see if he can score me some. Thanks Smokehouse.

@ 2D_Master:

I'm pretty sure that Manzanita Sol, Sangria and Jarritos all have national availability. At the very least, I can confirm that you can get all three of them in Southern CA, Northern IL and Southern WI.

Sangria is fantastic, and Jarritos ARE almost too sweet, but very good. I've never tried Manzanita Sol, might have to finally pick up a twelve pack one of these days.
