The Final Fantasy hate going on reminds me of Apple hate.

Perhaps.

To me, it's more like Star Wars hate.
But that says more about me than the franchise I'm professing to loathe.

I was "too old for this shit" like a decade ago. Time to move on.

They could make such a quick buck by re-releasing Valkyrie Profile on PSN.

Is that a real video game character? It looks like an April Fools joke or something.

I haven't played a Final Fantasy since a friend lent me 10. I gave it back pretty quickly. Voice acting was not the way to go.

FFV sequel? Did I miss something..?

Anyway, the consensus seems to be that they're past their heyday... and they are. Kind of hard to argue otherwise if you ask me, even if you like FFX-2, FFXII, etc (and I did).

Sorry, typo - There's an FFIV sequal on WiiWare.

So this is why Deus Ex: Human Revolution was delayed?

Actually, that delay is one of the reasons their profit forecast took such a hit.

I'll take it as a good sign that they're willing to delay two of their big titles even if it means having a slow year and hurting their stock price further. If the two games come out late and still have issues then there's a problem.

Oh.

I have that, but it's hardly anything special. It's overpriced, too — getting the game is basically a large demo. You have to pay about $40 for all the content.

A remake of FFIV+sequel is going to be released on the PSP. It looks like the FF1+2 PSP remake, only better.

^ Here's the trailer for it.

People are saying "you need to go back to your roots!" Well, what about the FFV sequel or the 4 Heroes of Light? Not to mention Crisis Core is one of the most enjoyable PSP games. And people are creaming themselves over 3rd Birthday. But SQUARE ENIX SUCKSSSSS.

But I don't want spin offs/experimental titles. I mean I do, they're nice and all, but what I really want is for the main Final Fantasy series to return to its roots. I want a fully original, PS3/360 Final Fantasy that's more like one of the older Final Fantasies that were my favorites like 4-6. I just feel like the main series has changed into something very different from what it used to be. They're good games, but they don't really feel like the Final Fantasy I used to know and love.

All in.

IV has my favorite cast of FF characters, and every revisit to the series has been nothing short of magical for me. The After Years, with all the expansions, is a worthy sequel and a good game in its own right (although I agree that anything less than the whole hog is unsatisfactory.) Having it all on the PSP as one mega-epic is killer.

What's really sad is that I see this and my sense of nostalgia kicks into overdrive. Where did that nostalgic longing for airships, summons, crystals and magical places go in the hearts and minds of S-E's staff? Somewhere along the way, S-E thought we wanted motorcycles, impenetrable plots and unsatisfying endings.

I hated IX, but I'll give it credit for this much: it felt like it was at least TRYING to capture the magic. I loved X, but I can't really say it was a pure Final Fantasy experience for me.

Said it before. I'll say it again. Lost Odyssey is the best FF since VI.

FFIV is one of the few games I've bought multiple times.

SNES, PS1, Wonderswan, DS...and now I'll be getting it on PSP.

SE just needs to hurry up and remake it with full 3D HD graphics. I want the whole game to look exactly like the CG intro in the DS remake.

IX was the last good game, everything after is just teenage-angst filled bullshit.

I think the airship / crystals stuff went out with Sakaguchi. I like both the "fantasy" and "sci-fi" styles of the different FFs. I have a mental scar from when I was playing XII so I only got 20ish hours in and can't really go back to it, but it seems like that's the most similar to the I - VI & IX style.

FFIV was the first rpg I ever played, and at the time, I thought it was the greatest game ever made. I missed so much school during the weeks I was obsessively playing through it the first time, it's ridiculous.

When I finished playing through it a couple times, I was frantic to find something to follow it up with. I played DQ2, Soul Blazer, maybe something else I'm forgetting, and then by the time FFV got released here, I was a little burned out on the whole thing. I did play and enjoy Chrono Trigger when it came out, but otherwise, my obsession with traditional RPGs kind of burst onto the scene and then disappeared again pretty quickly. I think I just liked FFIV specifically more than I ever liked the actual genre as a whole.

I had been hoping to recapture the feeling of playing FFIV when VII came out, but I got bored midway through and quit. I think that was the first time I ever quit a game (that had an ending) without finishing it.

Stupid, stupid move to make Kain brainwashed by Golbez, and in turn Golbez brainwashed by some fruit on the moon.

Kain is one bad mother. His design is iconic.

I'd love to see another Einhander. When Square spread out into other genres it did pretty well with some innovative, if not poorly sold, titles. I never even touch JRPGs anymore outside off of my SNES FF2/3 for nostalgia.

Any word on this getting a stateside release?

So glad I got another PSP recently.

Square-Enix need to be saved? Release a remake of FFVIII and Chrono Trigger 2 (I know Chrono Cross is kinda a sequal but...no) and they will be saved. People will eat that shit up!

Well now that they are on the slide to financial ruin, I've got the perfect game to pitch to them: Shattered Fantasy. It could be their swan song.

It's about Tifa and Cloud working in a "spa" to make ends meet, working individually or doing "duos" for bi-curious businessmen in downtown Midgar.

Barret abandoned his kid and works on becoming a self proclaimed "mouth rapist" sticking people up with his gun arm and shoving his junk in their face while Yuffie does cam shows with Red XIII.

I could go on, but why bother.:crying:

As much as I wish to someday see an HD remake of FF4 or FF6, that 3D scenes in that trailer posted are what scares me. You can't tell me you didn't flinch when you saw Cecil. They turned him into a drag queen! The character designers at SE now are terrible.

The slightly anime-ish look of FF7 was the peak of greatness for the series art style. Why can't they return to that?

If an FF6 HD were ever made, every character would look like they came off of Project Runway. Every female would look like expressionless robots, and every male would look like they hadn't eaten for 2 weeks and got attacked by a Rocky Horror mob.
