Apparently due to a heroin overdose from a recent relapse (I never even knew that he had a substance abuse problem).

He leaves 3 children behind.

Very unfortunate to hear. He was an excellent actor & I enjoyed everything I saw him in. Seemed to be a solid guy off screen as well.

Yea if I'm not mistaken he checked himself into rehab last during filming of a movie citing that he knew he had a problem. This is very sad to hear

He made a dark comedy about addiction ( to huffing gasoline ) called "Love Liza", that I will always remember him by. Sometimes fiction follows truth. Always sad to see addiction beat a man.

Wow, what a shame. I always liked his work, he was exceptionally good at portraying quirky side characters believably. If anyone gets a chance, check out Synecdoche, New York, a film he was the lead in about six years ago. It's definitely worth watching.

Sad to see him go, but glad he was at least recognized for his talents while he was around.

He was the go to man for characters who were a bit odd (along with Buscemi) for the first decade of his career, then went on the up from there. I'd say he'd achieved a lasting presence in Hollywood so it's surprising that he was on a downward path in his personal life.
