Yea if I'm not mistaken he checked himself into rehab last during filming of a movie citing that he knew he had a problem. This is very sad to hear :(

Crazy.

He made a dark comedy about addiction ( to huffing gasoline ) called "Love Liza", that I will always remember him by. Sometimes fiction follows truth. Always sad to see addiction beat a man.

It's just PR firms going crazy. Technically news should wait for autopsy for official reasons.

but we know it was drugs....

Wow, what a shame. I always liked his work, he was exceptionally good at portraying quirky side characters believably. If anyone gets a chance, check out Synecdoche, New York, a film he was the lead in about six years ago. It's definitely worth watching.

Sad to see him go, but glad he was at least recognized for his talents while he was around.

He was the go to man for characters who were a bit odd (along with Buscemi) for the first decade of his career, then went on the up from there. I'd say he'd achieved a lasting presence in Hollywood so it's surprising that he was on a downward path in his personal life.

Will be missed.

Wow. Unbelievable. He was a great talent. This is a terrible loss. Although not one of his defining moments, I loved his villainous role in MI:3. Really dark stuff.

Seems crazy to even suggest this but: RIP Phillip Seymour Hoffman :(

That's surprising, I had read about the whole addiciton thing but with him checking himself in for rehab, you always hope they are turning it around. RIP.

I never knew he had a drug problem, but I don't exactly have my finger on the pulse of Hollywood. Still, I enjoyed him in everything I saw him in. RIP.

From what I read it was heroin. Mind you the story could change over time but that's what I heard so far.

Still it sucks that he died in his 40s. RIP.

Damn one of my favorite actors. I loved his performance in sooooo many movies. Man heroine is such a dangerous drug and its hard as fuck to kick.

Fuck this sucks RIP to one of the few "true" actors.
