Yeah, hoping I don't screw up my CP when adding some button holes, metal for that thing will be a bitch.

i'm not too sure, if this exactly what you wanted to see. i can take more pictures, if needed.

do you know, if those locks are made from hardened steel? i might have to cut mine in pieces or drill them out, i'm afraid.

Not sure what it's made out of, but they are pretty damn thick looking. That picture is perfect. Thank you very much! Looks like I'll be trying to make some too. Either that or look for a straight one with the same latch and bend it. If I find anything easy that works well I'll let you know.

Got an "after picture" from the cleaning? Definitely a great frame for a project right there. Can't wait to see this project through...cool stuff.

it's the same metal that they used for the hinges that hold the monitor lid thing. it's 3mm thick.

i dismantled it as much as i could and rinsed the smaller parts in the bathtub, but i still need to get the bottom piece off.

it is. i wouldn't have had the space for a bigger cab and using this will be much easier than building a cab from scratch.
it'll take me quite a while though. i might have the time to work on the cab soonish, but then i won't have the money to spare. looks like i'll be spending my time with job hunting for the next few weeks/months.

if things go well, then i plan to paint in the spring and i also decided that it needs some serious sound deadening. at least on the sides and back, but possibly under the lid that covers the monitor and the control panel, too.
luckily there are only two sports where i will have to use bondo, though.

i think i will start with looking for a cheapish 19" monitor and trying to come up with a design for the control panel. those are things that i can do late at night ...
i already have a spare 4 slot board, a jamma harness and an arcade power supply.

well, at least it seems to feel right at home already:

Awesome job man! That cab looked like a real turd when you picked it up but now it looks factory fresh. Just goes to show with a little hard work and elbow grease anything can be made to look nice again.

thanks. actually, i don't think that the cab looked too bad when i picked it up. afterall it's about 20 years old. that and i usually clean every used item that i buy anyway. used lego bricks (lego trains being my other hobby/interest) usually go straight into the washing machine, for example.

i still plan to repaint once i managed to make replacements for the missing doors.

i'm just super happy that the glass that covers the monitor wasn't scratched by some teenage punks.

Are those speaker frams under the CP?
yes, they are. i plan zu mount a headphone jack under the control panel and the speakers might be the last thing i will add to the cab.
to be honest, i'm a bit afraid that my neighbor might go apeshit, when i start playing the cab with "heavy machine gun" or blazing star's "woo", "yeah" & "bonus" blasting through the speakers. ... hence the sound deadening.

i don't even want to know. it probably depends a bit on the quality of the amp and speakers, too.

Man, that is nice! Came out super clean. Thanks for the drawing too. That's going to make things much easier. Again, looking really nice. Great start for a nice project.

thanks.

i couldn't sleep last night, so i decided to make a control panel out of cardboard to test the layout. the other piece on the monitor is the size of a 4:3 20" lcd screen.

i also downloaded inkscape and tried to design a control panel overlay. yes, it's 10 cm too wide. i'll have to fix that. buttons will be white sanwas and the stick will be a seimitsu ls-32-01 with a matching sanwa balltop.

very cool. Yeah, I was going to say...even with the coin insert thing out like on mine, 2 players is still a bit crampt. If you're going vert for the most part, one player like that will be perfect!

i will use the cab for neo geo stuff mostly. the cardboard piece was vertical, because otherwise i would have had to tape it to the screen. however, i do plan to play some cave shooters on the cab, too.

the control panel overlay is almost done. i'm now waiting for a response from Andy Geezer, because i need a naomi coin entry for this panel:

if i was to make a 2 player panel in the future, i would probably chose a 2l12b or 2l6b layout as there really isn't much space to work with.
"candy twenty", because of the 20" lcd screen that i plan to use.

i sure hope that this will be the case. if all else fails, i could still try to score a used crt tv. i might even be able to get one for free.
my 24" widescreen has a viewing angle of about 170°, i think. it's not as bad as i thought it would be.

he has one that he already restored. i plan to pick mine up on saturday and i want to take some pictures of the restored cab anyway. you'll get your pics. most likely on sunday. :)

here's the other one:

http://forum.arcadeotaku.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=13664

the thing that i really wish was included with mine is the marquee holder.

That cab would belong to me:) good luck with the project m8,
not got much to do on mine, found a replacement fluorescent tube, and some locks for the CP, thats it really, part from a few scratches on the body.

Have you spoke to thomj over at arcadeotaku about his original panel? he has for sale.
Did i mention mine came with the Very Rare, Cup / Ashtray holder? apparently the previous owner bought a whole donner cab just to get it

and the current version of the panel:

5235477245_c3c8037fd7_b.jpg

that's all i could do at the moment. everything else will have to wait until january.

i know about the cup holder. i actually touched it. :D
Stephan told me that he pieced your's together from at least two diffentent cabs. i think he planned to keep the cab at some point.

the original control panel isn't that important to me. what i would really like to have it the plexi marquee holder.

don't know if anyone still cares, but there's not much talk/info about these cabs out there, so here's an update:

"mounted" :) a seimitsu stick:

5251626522_19cd99f54f_b.jpg

100% ghetto, but the tape holds the stick better than i thought it would.
i got the metal punch set in the mail today and plan to order the cpo soon. can't wait to get a real panel in there.

next up ... the new monitor. got a LG L2000CP 20" screen off ebay.

something else that looks ghetto (i only had 7 of those metal pieces, btw), but it'll be painted and hidded by a bezel, so ...

5251022445_b0f2c1224f_b.jpg

fitted ... and since i do net yet own a cga to vga converter, i decided to hook up my dad's old pentium4 notebook and tested the monitor with final burn evolution:

It's coming together nicely! Would love to get my hands on a Candy machine but they never made it up where I live before the arcades went down. Also it's WAY too pricey to ship one.

Lookin' sharp! Are you gonna put an SLG in the video chain to get scanlines? ... or you plan to make it an emulation cab and do scanlines via the software?

I'm a bit busy at the moment, but will try to post a little update later this week.

Put a 2 slot in the cab and made a new harness. Yes, i'm using a slg. Love it. My dad thought that there was a crt under the tinted piece of plexi.
