wow that looks outstanding. You've outdone yourself.
I love the ingenuity with fitting the lcd screen in.
It would be pretty neat to get your hands on a beat up shell of a cab and really make it into something nice.
Happy you saved a good cab from a possible ill fate.

cool! Anything with the CP? I still haven't picked up locks yet, lol, so I understand if you haven't. Also wondering if the coin mech stuff got there and if it was what you needed?

shit, i forgot to let you know? i'm sorry. i had to focus on exams, the new job and the internship as a teacher.

to be honest, i don't really feel like working on the cab, atm. next on my list is the panel but that will have to wait until i have the time to visit my parents and use my dad's workshop. problem is that i have to work most weekends.

edit:

as for the locks ... i managed to remove two of them. there's only one left and that one will be a bit of a pain to remove. it's the one that holds the marquee holder in place.

No worries. Was it what you needed?

Good luck on the teaching stuff. I teach first grade. It's a fun, but tough job.

Cool cool, glad they were the right parts.

Oh ok, big kids. We're still working on regular "counting" lol. Good luck man!

i had to get rid of a piece of wood that i kept under the bed, so here's a little update:

the wood was cut by hand, btw. the only power tool that i currently own is a drill.
it's not as nice as Franco's pcb holder, i know.

and a pic of the modded slg3000:

Hi supergoose79

Well done! May I ask you where did you get the nice panel from? I also have a Candy 18 but with a ugly panel and not so good sticks and buttons.

Thank you for your help.

Thanks. I made it myself from a piece of sheet metal that i got off ebay. It now looks like this:

Here's something that i posted over at arcade otaku:

i was asked how i made my new control panel so here goes ...

i got the hole punch and sheet metal off ebay. the sheet metal was cut to the right size by the seller. 51cm x 11cm. cost me a bit less than 5€ plus postage.
don't buy stainless as it's a bitch to work with and can ruin even hss drill bits, btw.

next step: transferring the layout.

6116415315_54c0dc7630_b.jpg

6116943412_6308ccda4b_b.jpg

drilling the hole. if it's off by a mm or two, then use a file and all is good.

6116943528_87b35ae1f2_b.jpg

install the hole punch.

6116943664_84cc180bdd_b.jpg

then i used a lego brick to make sure that the punch was exactly where i wanted it to be.

6116943870_8ef2348cbc_b.jpg

next step. wood to make sure that the panel won't bend when making the holes.

6116399917_a06f66b4f1_b.jpg

6116944272_8811ce25cd_b.jpg

one of the most important steps. the mounts for the joystick. i don't know anyone who could have welded it properly and i didn't want any visible holes, so i had to think of something else. i used wood. drilled holes and then used epoxy to glue in some sinkhead screws. once the epoxy was cured i used even more epoxy to glue the wood with the screws to the panel. looks shitty and unprofessional but works well ... enough.

take your time and make sure that everything lines up!

6116401399_b87865ee86_b.jpg

one side is a bit smaller to make sure that screw in buttons will fit.

6116401565_0bd4a74251_b.jpg

the coin entry bit:

6116400437_1489d6f6bc_b.jpg

group shot. i still think that testing the layout with the cardboard panel was a good idea. would have never thought that it would hold up as well as it did.

6116402225_1b8358d5ce_b.jpg

these are the tools that i had and used:

6116401761_2c75770384_b.jpg

and when i was done i broke out the trusty old vorwerk vacuum cleaner and everything was back to normal.

hope this helps.

Wow Falk, that looks amazing.

My only comment is about the button placement. Do you find the way the A B C and D buttons are laid out to be comfortable to play on?

Almost seems like after extended play your right hand would possibly cramp up from the way you would have to rotate your wrist to hit the buttons.

But perhaps thats not the case?

Cab rehab looks really good though.

Thanks, Todd.
The layout is very similar to the offical sega one. I have a 1L6B versus city panel that i compared it to when i made the cardboard panel. Only the stick had to be moved a few milimeters in order to make it fit inside the control panel surround.
I usually have my thumb on the A button when playing 4 button games. When i play shooters, i move my whole hand to the left so that i have my index finger on the A button. Works well and is a bit more comfortable than the os neo stick's layout.
