I thoroughly enjoyed it. The first episode when everything was going to shit in the reactor control room reminded me of the excellent film Downfall. I loved the musical score and sense of foreboding in some of the longer shots. HBO you spoil us.
5 carbon tipped control rods out of 5.

I'm still chewing on the show...it had that large of a mental impact on me. I fully understand that some of it wasn't 100% accurate, but the guts are and that's what counts. It really is a haunting show.

The part where the two go into the reactor room and see the core in full meltdown is easily one of the most terrifying things I've seen. No scare tactics needed, real, sub level fear.

Shows like that prove how good TV can still be when done correctly.

yeah, an invisible force that causes you to melt from the inside is something out of a horror movie.

...and knowing that people were ordered to go to their invisible doom. The scene where they tell the man to go to the roof and look into the debris is horrifying. I cannot imagine being told to throw my life away like that.

I was thinking how great it would be if there was a mini-series about the Tian'anmen Square massacre done in a similar style of story-telling like Chernobyl. It will never get made but a man dares to dream.

Chernobyl is a mini-series and shouldn't really be compared to tbe likes of The Sopranos or Breaking Bad.

Its not the length (of the series) but the girth (of the drama) that is important here.

Finished this show over the weekend and I found it to be excellent. The work of the people cleaning the whole mess up, I can't put words on how heroic that was.

That sounds like an excellent idea. A very loaded subject at this point of time though. I think it needs another 30 years...

Disagree entirely. China is trying to own the whole world. A Chernobyl-esque series about the massacre is perfect for now, but no one will ever produce it because of economic consequences. I don't know why you think it'd be better in 30 more years. People here don't even know (or care, if they know) about the HK protests. It's time to take the kid gloves off.

Thirded.

China are a huge player on the world stage now and they're here to stay. Just like any new relationship, if you let shit slide at the outset you'll be dealing with it eternally.

I didn't say I think it would be better in 30 years, but it is a very loaded subject and will not be produced for another 30 years (if ever) for the reason you just mentioned.

only loaded to the CPC. To the rest of the world this is a cut and dry situation that deserves further investigation, and would demand wholesale change.
