I can confirm lach was out of line.

While this for sure is a forum filled to the rafters with antagonistic assholes…I don’t think that’s the issue in this case. Lots of people hate gamer podcasts. One of my best friends is a somewhat well known video game podcaster and he knows I never listen and he understands completely. He wouldn’t listen to it either. The shit is torture…

Is Superman 64 the one where Superman himself actually takes no damage but his "health" is essentially the city/innocent people he has to protect? So you can't allow to much destruction? I always thought that was a neat concept, but maybe it was a different Superman game?
There is some of that in the later stages. In one stage you have escort Lois out of building and yeah, basically you can get hurt plenty, so long as you keep her safe. On paper it sounds good but the execution is horrible. She can be next to bombs that explode and is totally fine. Nothing is accurate.

Most stages though are timed, 360 degree things on this clunky hardware. On one stage you have to fly through a bunch of rings but the controls and graphics just don't align. You want to puke after trying it. I can't do it justice trying to explain it, a YT vid is probably best. It really is the worst modern game i've played.

Well, that was until I played Lego Brawls. Wow. A hot hot mess. It tries to be a smash clone, but there is only like one soundtrack on loop, only 2 action (punch / fall) sounds. Backgrounds are boring beyond belief. It feels like REALLY bad shovelware. Insane to me that Lego would allow their name on this POS. As far as the smash clone part - no moves, limited characters, it feels like something that might have come out in 1987.

Is BBH the same as BadBoyHalo? I don't know either, but BBH brings up the other name. I can appreciate people who can do things in games that I cannot.

I used to watch ThaBeast721 for Mario Maker stuff. Many of his super expert clears are things the other YT "pros" can't clear, he has the only clear on them, etc. Some really impressive stuff.

Strats gleaned from or inspired by BBH's vids have helped me bag a number of clears. He's one of the goats, no doubt.

Game related podcasts are pretty farty though, full stop. No shade at anybody in particular, they're just kinda dumb and unlistenable a lot of times.

On topic, Altered Beast. Game isn't good, but it definitely made me want a Genesis back then. I will probably always really like it. The Genesis version destroys the arcade version when it comes to gameplay.

I don't think the game is as bad as people make it out to be but I guess that's why it's in this thread. I never bothered comparing arcade to genesis. I just ... don't care that much? I'll take your word for it though.

Altered Beast...
It's neither good or bad, it's legend.

The Megadrive is my favourite machine when it come to bad games.
Pit Fighter, Fighting Masters, Fatman/Slaughtersport, Power Athlete are rather bad (Fatman is an experience on its own) - yet a lot of fun to play when you're high/drunk with a buddy or two.
The dreaded Sword of Sodan is goddawful, yet it has a strange shitty appeal and is actually not that terrible when you get into the silly potion mixing system. I'd say it even goes as far as being enjoyable.

Oh, and Timecop on the Super Famicom is a great bad game, it ticks so many boxes (cheap licence-xploitation, Cryo, digitized graphics & "motion capture", plus the whole take on an already funny setting - and yeah, not-Vandamme, and it's only $300 on ebay) it's certainly worth wasting precious minutes of your existence.

Altered Beast (all of its bestial forms) is in my top 20 games of all time. You're right that it is legend.

I always thought Killer Instinct was shite... like Donkey Kountry the Fighting Game... and then there was some horrible Jaguar Game I just discovered called Fight for Life.. then I looked at Jaguar games because of Atari 50.. Jaguar sucks. Everything Sucks.

I played Lethal Enforcers for the PS1 over the weekend ... awful. It had some funny shit about it like the stage intros but my god, this is bad.

Highly recommended for dumb fun though.

Altered Beast made me buy a Genesis - cosmetically it was way beyond anything at the time, that VERY quickly changed. But at launch? Holy shit!

Isn't the lethal enforcers PS1 port much more harder than the arcade original anyway?

I used to enjoy Crypt Killer on the PS1, make of that what you will :)

I have no idea. I have the hack so I can use a guncon, but I think that has nothing to do with it. You have literal split seconds to react to enemies popping out so I think to be good at this game you have to have it memorized.

It's a bad game, but on the easiest difficulty and 30 credits, I had fun with it.

Not as good as Point Blank or Time Crisis: Project Titan or anything like that.
