i was a little pissed today to find out that theres still no pricing info. that was the whole reason i went through the mustang and challenger base models, for a price comparison.

meh.

have you seen the camaro or challenger in person?

i think the challenger looks great in pictures. but when i saw it at naias, it was huge, and the lines are so subtle, it looks like a toy or impression or something.

the camaro on the other hand, i think looks like shit in pictures. especially the front end. same goes for mine in my sig, and every other generation. but when i saw it in person it was amazing how much better it looked. just like my 4th gen, it looks so much better in person and i dont know how to capture that in pictures. i think something just gets lost.

anyway with that all said. the live unveil was a let down, as was the information sheet, AND the color choice. even though ill probably get victory red or black, i would have liked to see hugger orange, a bright blue, and a brightish green (like on the yenko 1st gens you always see.)

the gearing for the transmissions just seem odd. the one manual only has 1 overdrive gear. wtf?
and i think only one has a 1.0 gear. :conf:

The 4th gen Camaro front end always looked like shit.

The 5th gen looks just fine in both pictures and in person.

I'm still waiting to see if Chevrolet will have the decency to bring back some of the 1969 RPO paint schemes and offer rally stripes as well. They need to offer Dover White, LeMans Blue, Daytona Yellow, Garnet Red, Tuxedo Black, Cortez Silver, and Hugger Orange.

I'm writing for a local car magazine now :)

Congrats! I used to write for a Toronto-based car magazine called 'Tuned', before it folded.

TunedMagazineJapan_01.jpg

I wrote their videogame reviews and A/V technology pieces. ;)

It was just in my spare time, and it started as they were getting the magazine off the ground as a favor because I knew the owners. As time went on, it was taking up too much of my time (I wasn't getting paid), but then the magazine folded just as it seemed to be gaining ground. Oh, well.

well i got it back from the shop.

pedal is really loose, gotta complain, especially for $70.

and i told em to check out a squeak from the rear.

looking at it, the wheel is wobbling as it rotates. bent axle, bad bearring, who knows.

mother****er.

i still dont think i like the 3.73s. they might be better with a higher stall converter or something, but i'll probably go back to 3.23's or 3.42's.

i wonder if anyone even knows what im talking about

ok so i been going all around this morning.

i picked up a repair bearing and two normal ones.

the seals.

new gear oil.

and i rented a bunch of tools. slide hammer, bearing puller, and seal/bearing putters.

i cant find my 8mm wrench...............

i think im going to get a new wrench, get the the axles out of my old rear, and then take everything over to the shop to have installed. (obviously ill return the tools as to not insult the shop. "here you need these tools to do it!" .)

id do it myself but its raining on and off, and ive never done bearing installs and i just want this shit done.

im pretty sure the loose brake pedal is from the wobbling axle pushing on the pads.

Why did you rent a slide hammer? GM diffs use C-locks. :p

What do you mean loose brake pedal? Does it pulsate when you depress it to slow the car? Not to sound daft, but did you check the wheel's trueness? You mentioned the wheel wobbling, if that is the case I would think the axle is bent or the front rotors have too much runout.

Details? Impressions? :p

Long live the I6!

The car was a blast to drive, as expected.

This particular car is a GT-R V-Spec, and has an all-wheel drive system that is controlled by the computer. So basically, you do not lose control of this car. I was surprised at how well it handles corners with zero loss of traction. The car is also a little larger than I expected.

There is very little turbo lag, in fact, the power is right there as soon as you put the petal down. The right hand drive feels more natural than you might think, and I was comfortable driving it within just a few minutes. Plenty of legroom in the front seats for someone as tall as me (6' 5"), but not a ton of headroom. The backseat is for midgets.

All in all, an incredible car.

i dont know what a slide hammer does exactly, but everyone said to get one.

dont you use it to pull/push the bearings and seals?

(obviously i decided not to do the work myself.)

whats a c-lock?

anyway.

the wheels are fine, they havent changed since i stopped driving it. the pedal pulsates. the front brakes havent changed.

its a bent axle no doubt. should have it back tomorrow. i was going to do it myself, but i didnt.

good news is the junkyard i got the rear from has a 30 day warranty. so i can get another good set of axle shafts.

the gas guzzler tax is some crazy bullshit.

Code:
Unadjusted MPG (combined)	Tax
at least 22.5	No tax
at least 21.5, but less than 22.5	$1000
at least 20.5, but less than 21.5	$1300
at least 19.5, but less than 20.5	$1700
at least 18.5, but less than 19.5	$2100
at least 17.5, but less than 18.5	$2600
at least 16.5, but less than 17.5	$3000
at least 15.5, but less than 16.5	$3700
at least 14.5, but less than 15.5	$4500
at least 13.5, but less than 14.5	$5400
at least 12.5, but less than 13.5	$6400
less than 12.5	$7700
as of 2006.

does anyone know if theyve readjusted the brackets considering the epa estimates have drastically lowered every car's ratings? or was that the point for more tax money.

i love this too:
In 1980, the tax was $200 for a fuel efficiency of 14 to 15 miles per gallon, and was increased to $1800 in 1985. In 1980, the tax was $550 for fuel efficiencies of 13 mpg and below, and was changed in 1986 to $3,850 for ratings below 12.5 mpg.

Hehe, a friend of mine is working on a old RX-7... it has a bridge-ported 12A engine, with ITB's

ITB's are so sexy.

finally driving my car again.

theres a low volume high pitched noise coming from the right rear wheel. also when i hit the brakes after the cars been sittin for a bit, theyll grind, and then the abs inop light will come on. the light will stay on till the car sits for a while, but the brakes work fine and it doesnt grind.

i think theres something wrong with the caliper, or the pads just arent sitting right or something. its the same side that had the bent axle so im not too surprised.

Well...sorry to break the continuity of nice new cars, but I need help from some of the hoons on here. Especially those with a knowledge of shitty old assed 'merican cars (Kim_Kaphwan?).

Anyway, Long story short:
For the last 14 years my "highschool sweetheart" has been sitting on four flats and rusting to all hell...it's time to bring this old slag back from the dead and then some.

The car is a 1983 Heritage ford Thunderbird small block 302 cid.
Underside is rusted all to shit and there are a lot of places where I will probably have to weld on new sheet metal or something.

Anyway, here's my problem, I am looking for a bodykit that looks like this but google and yahoo are giving me the usual "thunderbird-body-kit-generic-viagra-click-here for-paris-hilton" bullshit.

So, where should I start looking? and how much do these arerodynamics kits usually cost on an older car like this?

trailer folk get to have all the fun...

sheesh

Yeah, I gather the ppl he picked it up from were the epitome of "trailer trash". He said they had like 40 stray cats crawling all over the place, with car parts strewn about the lawn. Guy he bought it from had like 4 rx-7s though, so fun indeed.
