I've been dealing with stubborn a twinge of stabbing pain in my shoulder for a couple of weeks now after rotating my Blast's monitor.

My father is a retired general surgeon and thinks chiropractors are bogus, everybody else is telling me this would be a routine procedure for a chiropractor.

So I offer this up to the board for opinion

chiropractors: quacks or bonafide healers?

I am a believer in muscle manipulation (to a point). Now, if you pinch a nerve, slip a disk, etc...that takes a Dr. It takes "real" medicine to fix those things.

Anything else? I believe that routine muscle manipulation (stretching, muscle building, massage) can fix most pain issues...the typical chiropractor "crack, crack, pop" adjustment? Total crap. If your muscle is jacked and pulls the bones out of alignment...popping them back in place will only allow them to pop out of wack once again when the muscle once again takes over.

My dealings with chiropractors in the past have never yielded lasting results...not once. of those that I know that currently see one...it is a non stop routine of never ending appointments.

My Jan who is a PROFESSIONAL health practitioner... says that Chiropractor is another word for dumbass quack who preys on the dumb people...

...She rates them alongside psychics and homo-therapists...

Go figure...

I've heard from professionals I respect they're basically a waste of time. They can be useful in certain situations but if it doesn't help after a visit don't go back week after week because it's a waste of time and money. From the one doctor that told me the extent of their usefulness is often only one or two visits and not repeatedly like they would like you to believe. They're a lot like lawyers. They continue to feed you exactly what you want to hear so if it doesn't work out you'll keep coming back for more with hopes that eventually it will.

Real chiropractors are actually sports injury therapists and physical trainers, usually.
They're well versed in muscle pain, pulls, strains, minor spine misalignment, and other minor to moderate problems one might experience from RSI, poor posture, minor injury, etc.

They can help a minor or moderate problem from growing into a major one.

Chiropractors get a bad rap because there are some quacks who espouse spinal adjustments as the treatment for all woes. A properly licensed and certified PT therapist will tell you that spine adjustments will only help if you're having back and neck problems. It's not a cure for high blood pressure, or gout, or anything else.

I've been to a few Chiropractors before, and the best one I had was Dr. Jan Corwin in Oakland, who has served as a medical staff (in capacity as physical therapist, chiropractor, and EMT) for various high profile sporting events, such as the 1988 Summer Olympics.

Just stay away from the crazy homeopathy quacks.

Ha! This is the answer I came for. I guess you are the company you keep... in my case a buch of baffoons telling me to see a chiropractor.

Im going to continue to treat this injury with a regimen of aspirin and an evening scotch&soda and continue to live chiropractor free. If pain persists longer Ill see my GP.

You need ibuprofen to bring down the swelling... Aspirin won't cut it...

...Also... light stretching and some exercise will help...

PS. I forgot to add.... AFTER the swelling goes down and you feel more or less pain free...

If you go to the doctors they'll likely bump you one up from ibuprofen and bring out the naproxen, which is apparently a wonder drug but I don't know anyone who's made it past a week without feeling sick as a dog and binning the shit. Myself included.

DNSDies hit the nail on the head. Chiropractors can be useful, but it's more like physical therapy than a medical cure. If you've got something seriously wrong you need to see a MD.

They are not doctors. They are only official to other chiropractors. They are very similar to DO's.

Are they complete quacks? No, but you should certainly see a doctor first. There are certain scenario's where an experienced chiropractor may help, but you are often better off with a PT specialist.

My father taught me a lot. Quite often it was not what to do after seeing his mistakes. :lolz:

While I love my chiropractor and see her every month like clockwork, go see your regular doctor first. I find the doctor and chiro combination the best as you can get drugs and get adjusted. Hope you feel better!

I've had similar pain in my left shoulder blade for the past few years. Finally got it looked at over the summer and now I have to go in to see a Chiropractor ever 2 weeks as apparently I've got a sever case of scoliosis. It isn't really helping all.

Depends on the issue. Sometimes chiropractors can help, other times physio or massage is better. If you just tweaked your shoulder, you might just want to go to a massage therapist to work out an issue. I agree that you should probably go see your doctor, who will likely recommend physio or massage over chiro any day.

I'm three massages deep, so far I've put a few hundred bucks into my back. It helped most of the surrounding area and issues, but not the twinge.

Ask for trigger point injections - basically toradol shot into your muscle. I got seven yesterday and 8 tomorrow.

I've had quack chiropractors and good ones. I needed my neck adjusted something awful - had a kink in it for a week because I have a habit of cracking my neck and stretching my trapezius to the point of knots.

Dude found the alignment issue and completely straightened it out, you can feel your muscles release instantly with the the trigger points.
