I was cruising craigs looking at prices, wondering what everyone else is paying. If you don't consider it to private, how much do you pay and what do you get for it? Do you think its too much or too little?

I own my house, but I rent a room to a buddy from high school...

$350 and half the utilities ($75-$125) a month gets him a bedroom, own bathroom and a shelf in the fridge and a spot in the driveway. Renting in a house is often cheaper that apartments if you don't mind people wandering around...

It's kind of an irrelevant question to ask, because unless the people who answer live where you do, the information is useless. Someone who lives in San Francisco or Manhattan is going to pay way the fuck more rent than someone living in Boise.

Paying money to live on the planet earth. What sort of sorcery is this? Talk about a con artists trick! That's a good one.

That much Australian dollars might be enough to buy a computer.

You could do the Oregonian thing and blame all the imports from CA for the rise in rent prices. I have a friend in the same position and it's ridiculous what he's going through to find a decent place.

I keep hoping it will get cheaper... At this point I might have to go live in salem.

Rent? I remember when it was only $250, paying mortgage in the new house is more than 10x that.

You might be better off checking Gresham or Troutdale, maybe Vancouver. Are you living in the west side?

Living on Oahu, I believe that (Studio apt on the crappy side of Waikiki was about $1500 back in 1994, I think). I think Maui is pretty much on point with Oahu in terms of renting. I think my mom has 2 or 3 rentals now. Dunno what she's charging for rent.

It looks pretty nice out there, come to think of it. Would need to find gainful employment though. Do you like the area vs gresham?

I like where I am (not too far off 122nd, south of Holgate). If I have any recommendation for SE, try to find a place about 10 streets either way of 82nd...and maybe stay away from Powell.

I pay $1500 for a 2 bedroom, but it's split between 4 people so it's not too bad. I'm trying to get my own place and most studios or 1 bedroom apartment go for between 750-950.

I have my own house now, but I was paying $575 a month to rent a 3 bedroom house before I bought one. In general, house rent in my town in a decent neighborhood is between $550 and $800. Strangely enough, apartment rents are much higher. Also, my mortgage is lower than any of them.
