well he does have a few things going for him:

the pipe
the booze
the club
the hair

but there's one big problem...

the pink.

i agree with roker that Genjuro escapes pink's inherent gayness, but Amano seems doomed to be pidgeonholed by that kooky kimono. Plus he does have a pretty mellow disposition for a character in a fighting game.
