But seriously, it's sad that people haven't really paid attention to all the warning signs pointing in this direction for the past several years. I don't mean the stuff that normally gets airplay on TV news and talk shows, I mean the stuff being reported on the front page of major newspapers, discussing how the Administration has been trying to put forward this stuff, how people from both parties have been pushing back, and how the Republican centrists finally caved with a middle ground (oh yes, the original version of what the Administration wanted was worse than this), and here we are. The Supreme Court actually struck down the previous laws for being unconstitutional and so this law is the reaction to that holding (the possible silver lining is that it will most certainly get challenged in court again, and we'll see how that goes in a few years...).
As for the public... since it didn't involve vaginas (lesbians getting married, abortion, etc...) or guns (Iraq war) it doesn't get as much "popular" airplay and next thing you know you have most people surprised. So I'm not really blaming the Administration for tricking people, instead I'm leveling some blame on the people who don't care until it's too late.
Amazing what a few well organized lobbying groups can do. On a positive note, if I could get everyone in this forum to write a handwritten letter to their congressional representatives, we could easily start bringing an end to this bru-hah-hah over violent video games
(seriously)
