So I didn't think I would like the ship speed on this, felt heavy but the chaos on screen isn't Cave levels. When the game clicks, it feels great. I put auto fire on each Hz for dedicated buttons and that was an absolute game changer

I haven't tinkered with the controls or auto fire yet. I'll mess around with the controls in the options later. Chief was telling me about it in chat. My freaking thumb is about to fall off. Haha

Trying to set this up for tonight. No promises, but genuine attempt.

OK, I'm done tonight. The 6.6 auto fire was a game changer for me. And I learned a few tricks to maximize my score. The most important one I learned is that if you're not starting level 2 with 40000 points, just restart. If you use no bombs on the first level, this should be easy, but using just one bomb will cost you 10000 points. This game is ruthless though. The final stretch of level 2 has so much going on that slowdown kicks in. I actually made it to level 3 quite a few times, but in most of my games with the highest scores, I didn't even get out of level 2, and benefitted from racking up points in the same area a few times before the game over. Crazy.

I wouldn’t rely too heavily on the 40k by stage 2 or restart strategy. That sounds an awful lot like throwing away viable runs for nothing to me. I’m positive I didn’t have 40k at the end of stage 1 on either of these runs, for example.

I feel like I was ok at this game once upon a time, but revisiting it after years, and no auto fire, and I didn't make it through the first level. Might give it another shot with an arcade stick instead of the game pad I was using tonight.

Yeah it’s weird. I noticed it when I inserted more than one credit, and started a new game after my first coin ended.
