got any tips Panda?

Don't be afraid to bomb, stage 3 is loaded with them. Stay with the main weapon, I haven't seen any reason to use the other types outside of two spots. Other than that, just try to survive. Learn the patterns of the enemies, they are much worse than the bosses. Mid bosses suck too, no more than 1 bomb if you have to.

The Genesis version is much easier, some enemies can be shot down before they shoot their first pattern.

Edit: Used the second guy whose shot doesn’t spray all retarded when you use auto fire.

I'm no expert by any means, but I found I like using the Blue guy with the machine gun the most. His fire is more concentrated straight-ahead, and when you use the "retarded" spray shot, you can direct your bullets by pushing up or down on the stick. His spread shot has better power than the green guy as well. This is really helpful when there are the high-low spawned enemies during those moments when you need to defend the humans. Actually I only really use the spread ability during those times, for most of the game I'm shooting forward.

The other thing is the bonus. Get your weapon leveled up as soon as you can because when it's at MAX and you pick up an additional weapon item, a Bonus timer starts and you can get up to 16x bonus score as you kill enemies. There are a couple areas of each level that has moments set-up for you to maximize the bonus.
