SOTM February 2019: Truxton & Prehistoric Isle 2

So I'm not sure what is going on, but I just got an all on Prehistoric Isle 2 and I had like 39 million points, it asked me to put in my initials and now my score table says I only got 11 million points, any ideas? Could it be because I changed the lives to 3 instead of 5?

Edit: Nvm, figured it out, I was playing the JP revision which I guess defaults to 5 on the life bar, changing it to 3 doesn't hold score.

Ok, so I got it all situated and did another run. Got a 1 life clear. I'll try to do a run with the blue heli later.

Nice one, Panda.

Did you notice any differences in the ships other than shot pattern? Have a preference?

Green is super slow but the shot speed is much higher. Overall I prefer green simply because the G shot with homing missiles pretty much cover the whole screen. But the S? missiles ravage bosses. I did find Napalm sucks especially for the later stages. Blue is fun to use but makes the stages much more busy for having to deal with more shots though. Fun game overall and I'd like to get a 1 life clear with blue too. I don't think I'll ever try to get a perfect run as dealing with some of the rescues are a pain in the ass.

Never played this before. Was fun, until I got an enemy’s finger in my butt ad-nauseam at the beginning of round 2.

Not sure how I did it, but my red shot Uber maxed out, and had this cool color-cycling ring arcing in front of it during shots.

Thought is was a shield.

I was disappoint.

I get my stitches on my left hand out a Wednesday. Hopefully I can improve after that.

Got the clear on PI2. I’m going to say this is one of the easier shmups in the Neo library to 1cc, if not the easiest. Definitely easiest hori.

No missed through the main stages but lost a couple lives to the final boss. Still came out intact though.

Nice score, looks like everyone is beating me this month lol.

Here's my two clears if anyone wants to check them out. Pretty much just follow what I do and you will have an easy 1cc.

Nicely done guys. I haven’t had a chance to jump back in due to work, but I enjoy seeing the progress here. This seems to have been one of the more active SOTM’s! Good stuff.

Nice clears Panda, love that streaming setup. Is that recorded off the cab?

It is, I have a el cheapo webcam mounted on the top to record the control panel as well. I'm looking to do some upgrading to make the capture look better but it's going to be a bit before I get there.

Finally broke 200k for that second extend.

I had no idea there is a 1UP hidden just before the first boss. Right as you're coming up to the body of land(?) before it, there's a green spot on the ground. Shoot it enough and it releases a 1UP.

Nice runs, KP!
It's cool to see the NAC output board being used here. Such a great JAMMA output PCB.

That's not what I'm using, I'm using a Sanwa Capture device.

Ah, sorry. I saw the Norcal Arcade Club logo and thought it was reference to the Splitfire (that's the only other place I've seen that logo). My bad.

Nice score dude.

You need to have the green weapon to activate that 1-up. I think that area shows up on every level, but you need to have the matching weapon.

Nice tip! I tend to use the regular shot more than I probably should, that's probably why I didn't realize it requires the green weapon on stage 1. I'll have to plan that out better, pretty big advantage if you can collect those.

I prefer the main shot too, I try not to switch if I don’t have to. It’s a trade off as well going for the 1ups, since you get 5k points for picking up matching weapon power ups.

I had to go into town today so stopped at the arcade. I was surprised to see a Truxton cab, since they didn’t have one last time.

Played a couple credits and upped my personal best. Cheapskate owners had extends fully disabled as well. (Edit: or maybe I just died a lot more than I thought, which is fully possible)

I wish I lived near a town with an arcade. You are lucky!

I'm pretty rusty at Truxton but I wanted to get on the scoreboard before the month was up.

is anyone using a "in between" auto rapid shoot PCB for playing truxton ? My fingers are hurting after a few sessions

Yeah, I'm using a JNX spitfire.

I played some rounds without it (like my 252k score), and I don't think it gives you any advantage other than your arms not falling off after a couple rounds.

Couldn’t get the top spot but happy I got the clear. Made some mistakes on 4 and gave up my super missiles (everything they kill gives a star) and then again on 5 and had to drop hostages early for power ups/bombs so I missed a good 3 mill on that too.
