I'm surprized that no one talks about this here.

Just let everyone know that just like Circuit City, TRU's prices on many games have taken effect, 50% off on many older titles, some games are real steal, such as Sphinx for $6.50 on all 3 systems, as well as Guilty Gear X2 for $12.50, you can check the list at CAG, I could've picked up a few more but I only picked 7 as these are priority games and only one or 2 left in store, the rest can wait:

Gamecube:

Ikaruga $20
Need for Speed: HP2 - only one non-PC version they have in stock $10
Worms Blast $10
Sphinx $6.50

PS2:

Gundam: Journey to Jaburo $12.49
Guilty Gear X2 $15

XBox:

Marvel vs Capcom 2 $20

Clerk said the sale will keep going until those games are out of stock, I personally like this sale better than CC's $5 sale, $20 for Ikaruga is a great deal and at this price point it's less likely people will horde them all and resell.

So just passing this around for everyone.

There aren't any games in that list that I desire to own that I don't already. I bought Ikaruga on the DC, so I spent far more than $20 for it, but it's worth the money.

I paid $40 for Jaburo when it was released. Of course, that was like 2 years ago...

Now if they'd put Tales of Symphonia on sale I'd be there.

One last thing, when you check the prices of the games, it'll show up regular price but it may be saying promo. If it says promo, most likely it's 50% off, you need to have the clerk hit total for the discounted price, there's a lot of confusion over this but the list at CAG is pretty accurate, even employees there have no clue until the final price came out and he said, oh, you're right, it's half off. If any of the games end up not giving you discount, you can always ask the clerk to void that one particular item before paying.

Also before everyone gets all exceited and carried away, there're plenty of games that can wait, many of the $10 games aren't always the cheapest and have more than 10 copies in stock. If you live in Midwest and Pacific NW, ShopKo has many $10 GC/XB games like Super Bubble Pop, 4X4 EVO 2, Whirl Tour, Baldur's Gate, Star Wars: RS2, PN:03 is only $9 there, I'll check again and see what sub $20 games are there.Meanwhile, Target just cleared out some games for as low as $3.50, such as Mobile Light Force 2 PS2.

The Toys R Us in Rome isn't having a sale like any of that. :crying:
I guess that means it's staying put for a while.

I went to my local Toys R Us and came up empty handed.

My guess is this is taking place only at the stores that are planning to close.

I paid my local TRU a visit early this morning and they didn’t have much on offer. In fact, they had just learned of the clearance sale this morning, and they were currently making preparations for the official announcement that will be made on August 22nd.

They had the clearance signs hanging in all departments, but none of the merchandise was labeled with the appropriate price tags (meaning it was all guess work for anyone with prior knowledge of the sale). I was told that older releases will be the primary focus of the sale, and that system accessories will be in abundance in the next week or so.

Even though I didn't find much, I was still able to find a few games that were already affected by the clearance sale:

PaRappa the Rapper 2 [PS2] $10 (sticker read $20)
Street Fighter EX 3 [PS2] $10 (sticker read $25)
Silpheed [PS2] $15
Gekido [GBA] $15 (was $25 originally)

I was also told to return next week for a better chance of getting what I want. Apparently they have a shipment of NOS coming sometime next week, and each title will be labeled with some kind of clearance / price tag. The employee did mention that not every store would have $50 GC systems and $75 Xbox systems; this will be hit-or-miss from store to store.

Edit: Some prices will not appear until a sales clerk totals out the sale. In the case of Street Fighter EX3, the game rang in at $25 until he totaled out the sale.

I went by today and checked my local TRU and they had a lot of stuff marked down 50%. Most of the good stuff was pretty much gone but I at least got to sample some Donkey Konga and Paper Mario 2 action.

I went too and nada - East coast and midwest lucky bastards

Most likely all the titles were probably purchased by employees and sell them off on ebay. :oh_no:

Don't forget Best Buy was the first one to blow out their video games selectionsl, although the employees mostly raped them before customers could get to them.

Honestly I think those huge sales are stupid. How many times did I waste my time going around visiting every location possible only to come back home with a couple of games and 20 bucks short for gas.

I'd much rather see a few specials on some games every once in a while.

BTW .. if the GC package deal is true .. then it's the biggest steal in the history of gaming sales. I mean the Zelda collector disks alone can be sold on ebay for $30 or more. Which leaves you with a GC and Wind Waker for like $20 bucks.

I really want one of those GCN but I just spent $90+ on games. Here's what I picked up ...

PS2
- Rygar
-Unlimited Saga

Xbox
-Prince of persia
-Beyond Good and evil
- MGS2
-XIII

GCN
-SSX3
-NFS2:HP
-Eternal Darkness

My TRU is pretty crappy so a lot of the stuff that I really wanted they didn't have. But I may check on that 50 GCN. I know somebody that needs one... ;)

Edit: Does anybody know if the Metroid/GCN bundle packs are in this deal too?

OK, I eat my words. After the clerk totaled my purchases, the final prices do ring up as 50% off. However, it does not appear that all the Toys 'R Us price the games at the same regular price. The Boktai at my Toys 'R Us was $14.95, so at half price it came to $7.47.

I purchased
Virtua Tennis $4.95
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time $9.95
Klonoa: Empire of Dreams $9.95

So far i've picked up 9 games. I just remembered there's a TRU around the corner from my office so I'll be stopping by there tomorrow to see what they have in stock. Lot of good stuff but only one very big problem for me... When will I find the time to play any of these games?

I've heard that the 50% discount will apply to more than just games so i'm curious to see what else will be green tagged...I could always use more gundam models...

I got:

Boktai
Onimishu Tactics
Mad Maistro
Fantavision
Rygar
Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy
Beyond Good and Evil

If anyone can find a Paper Mario or REZ please, just pick them up for me if you have the extra cash. You can tack on $5 to each and I will pay for shipping. Good way to make an extra $10. Please :(
