The Japanese love the white ones for some reason.
The Neo Geo AES and the SNES (the euro version). The US version of the SNES didn't look as good as the Japanese/European version. I think the reason for the different design was that they wanted it to look like an entertainment device (like a VCR or something), not like a videogame console (just like they did with the original NES).Purely from a standpoint of aesthetic appeal, and not necessarily ergonomics, reliability or any other considerations.
What would you consider to be the best looking consoles?
My favorites:
Original Famicom and Super Famicom/European SNES.
Some people prefer the AV Famicom for it's universal design and detachable controllers, but the original Famicom is a work of art. The US design of the Super Nintendo should have never been released.
PC Engine IFU-30 "briefcase"
The unholy marriage of the world's smallest game console to the world's first CD-based game system, was achieved through an overly-complicated briefcase that just screams 80's technology.

Original PS2
I have always loved the simple "black box" design of the original PS2. In it's proper horizontal orientation, of course.
The Japanese love the white ones for some reason.
It's unfortunate that I went into this topic after looking through the Robocop topic. Cannot unsee ....
like duh!
I agree with kidpanda on the Blade Runner console.
Something about this just gets the juices flowing...

It's a nationalist conspiracy. The Japanese have been world leaders in electronics and video games. They also believe that white people (I'm classing them as whit for the purposes of this post) are superior, just like their games. That's why they love white consoles!!!
