Why “Awakening”? Why not “Forever”, or “Extreme”, or “Unleashed” or something with “black” in it?

How do producers chose which played the fuck out word to add to the name of a sequel?

Well, I'll give them this, they definitely nailed down how the game would/should look in 3D.

I'm wondering how the F2P mechanics are going to work, but I'm sure they'll ruin it with difficulty paywalls.

Because it looks pretty darn good and might be fun to play if the F2P mechanics aren't more predatory bullshit.

why are you guys even interested in this
Jesus Christ the gameplay video, now I’m really wondering why this thread was even bumped, let alone why it made people download shady APKs to play it

Remember when the PS2 3D Metal Slug seemed like an abomination? Good times
It's an okay game with good music, terrible camera, fussy controls, and cheesy cut scenes. The team at SNK that handled it didn't have enough similar work under their belt, and no matter what they did it would never live up to the beloved pixel art of the original.

I actually like it quite a bit. It’s just “funny” to compare it to this mobile trash and see how far things have fallen.

I need to go back and read the thread from 2006. I don't think this post would have gone over very well.

Game is out for general release now. Tinkered with it briefly last night.

The voice acting is hilariously awful. This is some mid-90s PS1 game level stuff.

Graphics are nice and feel appropriately Metal Slugy, though there's a lot of the weird stretchy static image animations in it. Same thing that's in KOF: All Star and other mobile games. Looks cheap.

Gameplay, just from the first few stages, feels very much like a "mobile" Metal Slug with autoaim (optional, but a pain without it) and having to get used to not having buttons. Bombs regenerate instead of being a static amount. You can get two levels of weapons now beyond the pistol, which includes one you equip and start with (which also have limited ammo), and the ones you find in the levels like normal. You can do "ultimate" skills that have varying effects. Bosses can have weak points you can exploit by firing at them from different angles.

More to come. No P2W stuff yet, but I'm sure I'll hit that wall soon enough.

I've seen this game advertised a lot, but I honestly have little to no interest in it. I don't really know how to describe it, but it kind of just looks "cheap". It's probably alright for what it's worth, but fuck man, this ain't it.

I played it for about 10 minutes and initial impressions really aren't bad at all. Being a mobile game will kill my interest in it, but it this came out or the Switch I'd probably play it.
