Angelyne- Based on the Hollywood billboard "celebrity" of the same name and forerunner to all modern social media stars who are just famous for somehow being famous. Kind of in the same vein as Pam and Tommy. I dunno it's interesting as so far it's shown almost 3 separate sides to the same story: her, whoever she's interacting with and then the most likely scenario. Lot's of great depictions of 80s Hollywood in all of it's superficial plastic glory. There's a good bit of humor from just how desperate she is and how almost disciplined she is in her delusions. The lead actress is so convincing as Angeline that she's hard to take at times. It's a more fascinating story that you would expect and like Pam and Tommy it's better than it has any right to be.

Holy shit, I grew up with those billboards and they were the saddest thing ever.

I guess they worked as even growing up in Ohio I knew of the billboards, I always assumed she was a porn star who was trying to cross over. I think the most success she actually had was a cameo in Earth Girls are Easy lol.

If she was a little less crazy and a little more self aware her whole persona and self promotion could have been a great criticism on Hollywood and what it means to be famous as some sort of meta art project. Instead she's just a delusional whack job that moved to LA and reinvented herself as some sort of hyper exaggerated living Barbie doll. So yeah pretty depressing.

I have to say the prosthetics for her huge fake tits are pretty impressive.

Did anyone watch Midnight Mass on netflix? I was pleasantly surprised by how good this was. Verrrrrrry Stephen King-ish in tone, setting and character development, but they didn't completely fuck up the ending the way King can't help doing. Plus, they market it as a 7 episode limited series, so you don't have to worry about them bringing it back and dragging it out for season after diminishing return season. Very solid, well structured, well shot.

Anyway, this came out a couple years ago, I think, so maybe you guys talked about it back then and I missed it.

Yeah I watched it last year and enjoyed it. I had issues with the premise but it was well made enough that I thought they managed to pull it off. Easily the best of Mike Flanagan's stuff so far.

Dev Patel plus dessert equals GENIUS!! Yeah I don't really know what to make of Barry S3 either than Noho Yank is still great. Show overall kinda tanking can't lie, this is joining Succession as HBO shows that wasted their extra time.

Outer Wilds - on Amazon Prime
I decided to give this a try given the cast. After 5 episodes not a single interesting thing has happened. I watched this in the background and kept waiting for something supernatural or surreal....I don't think it ever happens. 8 episodes of cowboy True Detective. That is what this is. If you like True Detective + Cowboys, give it a shot.

Below I will give some of my favorite serie recommendations:

Sci-Fi:
- Halo. To be honest I had only played Halo 1 on the first xbox with a friend on multiplayer. So I cannot comment on how the tv series follows the game series. Anyway, really good sci fi show. Good acting, story and effects (high budget).

- Star Trek Picard. I have not followed the old Star Trek and I am not a big fan of Star Trek. The first season was not so good in my opinion but the second one have made up for that.

- Star Trek Discovery. It got me to like Star Trek, but not the classic Star Trek. I liked discovery for that they tried to implement more action into the Star Trek franchise, which made me like Star Trek. I am not a big fan on only "moral" teaching, that Star trek normally is about in my opinion.

- Foundation. Ok, I have not read the books. So I cannot comment on how the series follows the books. Anyway, good acting, story & effects (high budget).

- Star Wars Mandalorian. A nice story, not only action.

- Star Wars The book of boba fett. A nice story, not only action.

Western:
- That dirty black bag. Really nice series if you like western. Original story, good acting & very well made.
- Billy the kid. About billy the kids life (from child and up). Very well made & god acting.

Fantasy:
- Wheel of time. Ok, I have not read the books. So I cannot comment on how the series follows the books. Anyway, good acting, story & effects (high budget).

Reality/Survival:
- Alone. 10 participants are positioned in harch enviroments. Last one standing wins a price money. They need to survive on what the nature give them. They get to only take certain amount of items with them.

Elon Musk's Crash Course- A doc about Tesla's self driving technology and Elon's bullshit promises over the last 7 years. Same old tech industry pie in the sky nonsense where they make wild industry changing claims and put some totally unfeasible time frame on it without any way to fully actualize it. This focuses mainly on the deaths resulting from the public beta testing of the self driving tech and Elon's ego/public image. Comparing the driving deaths to the medical testing/pharmecutical industry as an inevitable necessity to progress.

Some jackass getting killed due to failure of the self driving tech or their own negligence is one thing, they signed up and paid for it.

It's totally different when one of these things finally kills a few pedestrian or hits a minivan full of kids due to a software glitch and not just driver negligence. Which if Elon had his way would be happening and excused as collateral damage from the advancement of technology.

Some pretty good interviews with former big wigs at Tesla. Worth a watch but doesn't really get into stuff that most skeptical people haven't already considered.

I watched the whole thing. I liked some aspects a lot but the frequent lengthy monologues from many of the characters were really over the top. Overall it was too grim and depressing for my liking, though nowhere near the level of Amazon's Them. Decent show, a solid B grade.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those. Ugh. I wouldn't have minded too much but every single character gets one and some multiple. It was a bit much, luckily they don't break the atmosphere just slow things down and are a bit eye rolling.

The only thing I really found eye rolling was the great lengths they went to have no character ever use the word "vampire" or notice any similarities between what was happening on the island and the five billion vampire movies every person on Earth has seen.

Both of those shows are about .01% close to the source material. And they are both terrible.

If anyone is looking for a good comedic cartoon, I just recently finished Inside Job on Netflix. It's like a fun mix of Gravity Falls and Rick and Morty. Hopefully, they renew for a second season.

We Own This City- Well this is certainly no The Wire. The Wire actually had characters you cared about and wanted to see where their story went, they weren't exactly likable but they were strong. This is just a bunch of cops being horrible and the people charged with trying to fix an extremely broken system, you already know the outcome.

Jon Bernthal is not a good actor, he's certainly not good enough to be the foundation of the show. In fact after watching some interviews with him I'm not even sure he's acting most of the time. He's just playing slightly different exaggerated versions of himself and he really feels like he's trying too hard here. He would have been much more effective if he was used less and and toned it down.

The casting is actually really solid but everyone feels wasted here, there's no emotional investment and the characters that you could potentially get into are such terrible people that you want to see them get taken down. The ones that are good are so bogged down by the system that it's infuriating. The whole thing just feels like an exercise in futility. Just a lot of greed, abuse and helplessness with no real resolution.

I get that Baltimore is super fucked up and that the police are horrible and the justice system is beyond broken. If you're going to tell a story about that it needs to be more than just an infuriating spotlight.

All that said it's not a bad show it's just not something people are going to be compiled to watch. It's too close to reality and I think we are all aware of the issues it's bringing to the table. The world sucks enough we don't need more of that in our entertainment unless it's done in a way that elevates it to another level. The Wire did that, this does not.

Anyone watch Night Sky on Amazon?
Four episodes in. Doesn't feel like the halfway point to a story, but here we are. I want to say it's good, but it really could still go either way at this point. What I can say is that it's not bad yet. But if episode 8 is the setup to a second season, I'm out.

I’ll be interested to see what happens when you get to episode 8.

I’ll I will say is it’s clear they want a second seasons. This doesn’t seem to be a one and done, though given the nature of the show I can’t see it being sustainable for more than 2-3 seasons.

Saw Halo episode 7 tonite.

Fuck man. This episode featured the main character for about 30 seconds, and he didn't have any dialogue. AND he was only in the armor for about 15 of those 30 seconds.

NO ONE CARES ABOUT ANY OTHER CHARACTER THAN THE MC, much less some annoying asian kid and the ugly-guy-from-torchwood-and-the-Expanse-that-somehow-still-gets-acting-work. Why? Who the fuck OK'd this? Who seriously went to a pitch meeting and came up with

"So we're gonna have the chief take off his helmet..."

If I were Microsoft/Bungie/whoever I would say "ok, I'ma stop you right there. Thank you for your pitch. We'll be in touch. No, yeah - no - I know, you didn't get to finish your pitch but we'll be in touch. I said we'll be. In touch."
