'bout to drive my Escort through like 8 inches of snow to get to work

Only two rules to winter driving:
-if you get stuck, you were going too slow
-if you crash, you were going too fast

Yeah...winter is apparently going to go out with a "fuck-you" this year. The low on Wed is -3, the high is 9. I have to have my wife at the hospital at 6am for surgery that morning so it's going to be a cold one...

I know this isn't much compared to those in Canada...but last year was the coldest temps I have felt in my 37 years on this planet. We hit and honest -20 Jan '14...with winds in the 20mph range frostbite would occur in less than 10 min of exposure. It snowed the day before and I had to shovel that morning...any exposed skin felt like it was on fire...

Seriously, this year and last year have made me absolutely abhor the winter. Hope all is well with your wife.

Apparently this "winter" thing you've all been complaining about has finally hit North Carolina. We got an inch of sleet/ice and the state declared a state of emergency. Though the way people around here drive, that's probably a wise move. Stay warm all you Northeasterners. I don't miss that shit for a second.

Sounds about right. Many of the drivers, probably most of them women, get stuck all the time.

Even if I do get stuck, I know how to get unstuck; a pail of grit and a shovel are your best friends.

As cold as it is, at least this winter the antifreeze in my car hasn't failed me yet.

I should really just get all-weather or winter tires instead of super sports.

Your tire selection would probably help more than a change in vehicle as long as the snow/ice isn't piled up higher than the clearance of an average car. Even a Miata runs great with a set of Blizzaks.

this 80+ temperature here in so cal is upsetting... but what's more upsetting is that i won an auction on ebay this past sunday... and the seller hasn't been able to send out my item yet because he's back east and says the post office has been closed because of the weather. big time negative feedback! :spock:

I just walked past the thermostat and saw it was a balmy 7° outside. :help:

According to the local weather analysis, it's supposed to be -26° Thursday with the windchill factored in. It's going to suck having to work out in that. :(

Windchill is bringing stuff to -22 here, but since there's not a lot of snow on the ground, all the schools are open.

I was surprised yesterday when I went outside after work around 4:00 and it was in the low 30’s. No wonder there were so many ceiling leaks in the church I’m working at this week, makes me glad to live in a apartment on the second floor of a three story building. Back in the 10-20 tops today though. Fun stuff.

It never does anything here in northern MS. But, late Sunday night and through midday Monday we had a significant amount of freezing rain and heavy sleet. I couldn't even leave the house until Tuesday afternoon. The damn doors on my truck were super glued shut and driveway was solid sheet of ice.

Wow...it was burning cold last night.

Air temp was -2 but the winds were hitting 20-30mph...holy shit, that was horrible.

Today has been -2 to a current 5. This is one cold motherfucker for late Feb. These far sub norm temps are supposed to continue to pull. The ext forecast is showing highs around 15-20 for at least the next 10 days...

Such frozen...

Everything is saying it's 10 degrees outside, but I think its filthy, filthy lies. Especially once that wind starts up, any heat you had generated even in a good wool coat is getting sucked out of you.

It was 4 degrees out yesterday. 4.

i went to the local walmart (so cold it was as far as i was willing to drive) to pick up some thermal underwear. they had 1 shirt in my size (out of 6 total on the shelf) and no pants at all.

I asked when they would be restocking them. The associate said they wont be because they are transitioning all of their clothing to spring right now. I looked around and i realized they had pulled the winter coats, hoodies, hats, gloves, scarves and all things warm.

at least i could get a pair of running shorts though.

30 bucks later i ordered 3 new sets on amazon.

-18 when I went out to the car this morning.

Spoiler:
-37 wind chill

I don't mind single digits too much...but the minus teens is no fun. Heat in the car kicks in...right as you pull in to work.

The Long Island Sound 100 ft away is at a cozy 32 degrees. The sea breeze actually feels a bit warm in the daytime.
