Watched the witch (2015) last night, thought it was pretty good, a real slow burner that builds up a horrible sense of dread and foreboding that climax's with a real nasty/disturbing end.
Recommended if you like your horror to be less gore fuelled and more of the kind that gets under your skin and make's you feel uneasy.
Also be aware of the old english shakespere style dialogue in the film, not for everyone i'd venture.

He Never Died
rented this one last night...great low budget film. Rollins is entertaining with his dry humor and violent outbursts. The movie moves along well and in the end, it makes for an decent package. Definitely worth watching if you come across it.
That has to be one of the all-time worst titles, though. I generally liked the movie, as well, but that title isn't doing it any favors. You get Henry Rollins AND David Ogg in your movie then call it that?
Maze Runner: Scorch Trials

I was looking forward to this after watching the first one. I could not get into it at all. The plot was thin, and predictable. Which was expected, but it was really bad. This was such a let down.
Yeah, I remember thinking hey, that first Maze Runner wasn't too bad, and doing the same thing but "in The Scorch" sounds cool. Then it was terrible. And I went, hmm, this whole series generally blows.

The Hateful Eight - Tarantino is a huge faggot. Could've done without the white guy sucking a big black dick. Could've done without Zoe Bell. Could've done without the second worst Tarantino self-insertion into his own film. On the plus side, lots of great acting, especially from the bitch, the sheriff and Kurt. The old general was good, too. Not a great film, but good. Misogynistic? No. This movie treated the woman as an equal.
At least I tend to interpret the dick sucking story as not true (Jackson's character clearly is willing to lie about various things) and almost certainly just meant to push the General, but yeah, it's still a little overly visual.
Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt 2.

Wow...ok, so this was a giant pile of shit. I'll gladly admit that since I saw the first one back in 2013, I've actually enjoyed these films. No, they're not masterpieces, but they have been entertaining. Looking at the scores over at RT, they fall this way:

Pt 1- 84%
Pt 2- 89%
Pt 3- 65%
Pt 4- 70%

Seeing that, I guess I expected Pt 4 to be better than 3...boy was I wrong. Possibly it's just me, but Pt 4 was just a huge fucking mess. It comes across as a giant cluster-fuck or pieced together scenes with giant time jumps in between...then one more HUGE time jump and THE END, how this one scored higher than Pt 3 is beyond me. What's odd is all of this hopping around still manages to take up 137min...WAY too long for such little content.

In the end, I really enjoyed the series...but 4 is pretty shitty...

Surprisingly bad, I agree. It felt oddly anticlimactic to me. The entire throughline plot between Katniss and Peeta just never comes close to working, IMO, and Gayle is a shitty character who serves almost zero point in the entire series.

Spectre
I've been super sick this week so I decided to catch up on a few films, this being one of them.

I've always been a James Bond fan, and while none of the modern versions can touch good old Connery and his past work, I've found the current batch of Daniel Craig films to be enjoyable. I'll say that Craig makes an extremely believable Bond...actually more "real" than Connery played, truth be told. His Bond is battered, tired, more true to a man of that line of work. Even with this reality, he isn't as fun to watch though.

Spectre was another good 007 film, huge in scope, huge in location. Everything you'd expect. Like the reviews state, however, it's not as good as Skyfall...

It sucked.

The Disney Bond movies have been trying too hard to feel like Dark Knight movies instead. Specter failed in its slipshod attempt to shoehorn surveillance into the story, at the discussion level of a 13 year old child. They picked Moriarty to play a second rate Spectre government plant - and it could never work because the fucking buffoon was still doing his Moriarty act, which is the same act we get from Facebook Luther in Batfleck Superman, and it only really worked for Dark Knight Joker.

These Bond movies are following algorithms, much like Abrams' space westerns, the marvel universe, and I guess injustice will follow. It's terrible now. Best move is to stop watching these shitfests.

I watched Hush over the weekend on Netflix. It's about a deaf chick who lives in the woods by herself and is being harassed by a killer. It's surprisingly good and I'd recommend it to anyone who is a horror/thriller fan.

I agree that you cannot take it seriously...then again, it's a Bond film and I've taken none of them seriously.

Everything about Spectre is typical Bond silliness; over the top action, half-ass tech, questionable plot lines...but I still enjoyed it while doped up on NyQuil. It was worth the $3 I paid to rent it on Blu Ray.

I'll admit I enjoyed watching Spectre, but damn if it didn't feel like a bad Soap Opera with the brother bullshit. That and it almost made light of Casino Royale and Bond willing to get out of the game. Now some silly tart who's father he hates and beat the crap out of tells him to quit and he thinks to himself why not and presumably marries the girl at the end. Totally not a Bond ending. Least favorite of the Craig movies. Considering how badly directed Quantum of Solace is, that's saying something.

I think my issue with the new bonds is that Daniel Craig is inaccessible as a human. Too wooden. A lot like Clive Owen.

I dunno, I identify with Craig Bond, especially in Casino Royale. He's like me but slightly less handsome.

I think the last good bond was Goldeneye. The ones I enjoy the most are the Sean Connery or Roger Moore ones. Good movies to get your drink on to.

Wings of Honneamise - so I've only seen it once before, back in 2000, and it kinda flew over my head. I watched it again on the same DVD last night and appreciated it a lot more. What's amazing is how much in-world building they managed to accomplish, how they made the world similar and yet different to our own. Like a triangular spoon. It would've been so much better without the attempted rape scene as well. The next morning the girl even apologizes to him for it, jesus. Really, really ruined my enjoyment of it, although I know a lot of people here (using the search function) consider it a classic. And yeah, it is a classic, but that rape scene, come on now. I wish I had seen this on blu-ray, because this old Manga DVD has got to be one of the worst quality DVDs I've ever watched. http://www.kidfenris.com/2009/08/wings-of-honneamise-royal-rape-force.html

edit: the soundtrack is absolutely killer and i swear to god at some parts sounds straight out of an SNES game.

Saw cap america civil war yesterday and it was pretty amazing TBH, the airport fight is probably the best multi superhero fight i've ever seen on celluloid, 12 of them going toe to toe.
It's what batman v superman wanted to be so badly, but failed miserably, spidey and black panther are great fun as well, marvel studios have hit they're strap's with this one.

Hush was pretty good, agreed. I dunno, I could have done with some more exposition regarding the bad guy, though. And the ending did feel a little cheap (the gimmick, I mean). It works, but it's kind of dumb. But the tension throughout was well-done, and there were some really good scenes (the two dudes together, for instance. Small, nicely done).

Spectre was so godawful. Pretty amazing to think what Sony spent on it, and the fact that it got decent reviews is nuts, IMO. The entire story is stupid, with Waltz being about the worst Bond villain possible, which should so clearly have never been the case, I mean, damn. Embarrassing and hopefully Craig's last turn at the wheel (Tom Hardy has the best odds online of being the next Bond, followed by Tom Hiddleston and then Idris Elba. Emily Blunt is also bettable). After Casino Royale did a pretty solid job getting the franchise back on course and Bardem held Skyfall together, the series feels like it's on life support yet again. Cast Elba (or Blunt, but that's not happening) and I'll care, otherwise blah.

All Things Must Pass
-It's insane to remember not that long ago your choice was to go to Tower Records or The Warehouse for music. The actual fall of Tower during the rise of Napster/MP3 was interesting to see unfold again but with a peek inside the executive room

I just watched that one the other day, pretty interesting.

Rampart- How did I miss this? Woody Harrelson is a corrupt LAPD rampart officer who fucks up his career and family.

There was always a trailer for that in almost every anime I watched on VHS back in the day, it looked awesome but I never managed to watch it. I should fix that.

I don't understand the "cast Elba" argument.

I am trying to imagine him in the roles of the previous movies, and it doesn't work. Sure, anyone can play Bond - but why do it like that? Why not have a 008 movie? or a 009 movie? There's way more potential in that.

Awesome. End of story. One of the better films I've seen in some time.

Just saw Green Room yesterday, its fucking great

Awesome, I loved Blue Ruin, looking forward to this big time.

Big Hero 6- Much better than I thought it would be. Still schmaltzy as hell and of course super predictable but a technical marvel with some great action scenes.

Captain America: Civil War - I didn't see any trailers beforehand and had low expectations since I didn't like either Avengers film. But this was pretty good and actually surprised me at some parts. First hour dragged and I couldn't tell what the hell was happening in some fight scenes though. But the big fight was worth it.
