Yeah, I never got it either. Everybody I know that talks up stuff like that always seems to completely ignore the fact that all these people are horrible. Goodfellas, Casino, The Godfather, Untouchables, Scarface etc.

I am not into Italian mafia either. And Scarface hasn’t been cool since I was a teenager.

And no, not Leprechaun in the Hood.

I actually bought the Leprechaun 8-movie DVD set, and it came in the mail the other day but, I haven't watched any of them yet (watched the first 3-4 on TV years ago though). I think there are two "in the hood" leprechaun films when I read the back of the case?

Gangs of New York- I remember really liking this when it came out but man Cameron Diaz really ruins the movie.
DiCaprio doesn't do the movie any favors, either. I've never understood Scorsese's fascination with this guy. It's not as bad as Keanu in Dracula, but it's in that vein. And even then, it's not like Coppola went on to use Keanu in multiple movies.

I get that De Niro was too old for some roles at that point, that's fine. But you go from using De Niro in everything to DiCaprio? Especially in a movie where you were lucky enough to land Daniel Day Lewis? It's baffling.

Bridesmaids - first time watching this. A simple kind of date night movie. Melissa Mccarthy stole the show in this one, wow what a performance and energy. Yeah there are some minor complaints if I care to think about them but the movie isn't important enough to get critical enough about.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. The only thing with Leo that Scorsese's made that he fit in has been Wolf of Wall Street. I don't get it either.

Constantine:

One of my favorite films and comic book characters. Keanu Reeves is kind of a strange choice to play him, but, once I got over Constantine not being blonde, I liked him in the role, although he could have exhibited more playfulness/humor. The extra deleted scenes, which I'd never seen until today, were interesting, especially the Ellie half-demon/succubus character that was cut. I would have left those scenes in, Constantine banging demon girls is totally in character, as was him sparing her life too.

Good horror movie, even if you don't know or have interest in the source material, just for its' take on the balance between heaven and hell.

I'd never seen it either, but it showed up on Netflix last month, so I thought why not. I only made it about 15-20 minutes in. Luckily, the wife hated it, too, so I didn't have to watch the rest.

That movie is a lot better if you DON'T know the source material. Aside from him not being blond (who cares) or English (a larger problem) and turning the character into an action hero with mystical guns or whatever (even larger problem), I blame this movie for beginning the trend of mispronouncing the main character's name. Now it gets mispronounced in cartoons, tv, even by people at conventions... It's proliferated to the point that there is an entire generation of "fans" who don't even know how John Constantine's name is pronounced. And I blame this movie, and the people who didn't care about the source material when they made it.

But yeah. If you take it as its own thing, it's a perfectly acceptable dumb action movie. Nothing about it is great, but it's an inoffensive, moderately engaging way to pass a couple hours.

Yes, of course. His name is pronounced Constant-ine. -ine as in wine.

He literally points it out to other characters in his early appearances in the comics his "fans" have never read. But what does Alan Moore know? He only created the character.

I'm aware that's the correct pronunciation (I read a review of an action figure of him, years ago, where the author complained about that too), but, I've always pronounced it Constan-teen, and, even when I mentally remind myself that it's supposed to be Constan-tyne, I can't shake the habit. I don't recall him correcting people about it in the comics, as it's probably been at least a decade since I've read any of them, but, I'll take your word for it. It might be one of those things where multiple pronunciations are accepted too? I also tend to think more of the feminine form of the name, Constance, because one of my co-workers is named that, as was her elderly Aunt, whom she was named after, and recently passed away (but, of course, they both went by Connie instead).

Bro, no. You didn't take my bait. I said it was pronounced Constant-ine. It's actually pronounced Constan-tine. This has ruined my evening.

From one of his original appearances in Swamp Thing before he got his own series. Original writer, original artist. And not the only time he had to correct someone.

I sometimes wonder if they pronounce it wrong in the movie on purpose to further fuck with the already angry Alan Moore.

Wonder Woman 84 really is as bad as I heard. I can't beleive how broken the physics are. The running, the jumping...never mind the story and that its 2.5 hours. The first one was a solid movie, how is this one so bad.

I never saw it once everyone said it's shit. I was bummed. The marketing for this movie appeared to be better than the movie itself.

Ghost Rider:

It's been many years since I first watched this, and, while I still like the film, it came off cheesier on my second viewing. (It was packaged in a combo pack with Hellboy, otherwise, I don't know that I would have purchased it alone). Nicolas Cage was an all right Johnny Blaze, but, probably a little too long in the tooth for the role and hammed things up too much. Sam Elliot is cool as usual and Eva Mendez hot. The special effects on both Ghost Rider and his bike are generally good and I particularly liked the scene where he rode vertically up the skyscraper. I wish that Blackheart had looked like his comic counterpart, at least during the final battle, as that's a cool creature design. Overall, decent for a superhero film, but, not exceptional.

I also enjoyed the PS2 tie-in video game for this movie too.

I watched Heat for the first time the other day, been meaning to get around to it. I quite enjoyed it, the dialog can get pretty unnatural (it feels like theatre at points) but the heists are genuinely intense and engaging. I was more impressed by Val Kilmer and the rest of the cast than I was Pacino and De Niro, Pacino in particular is almost cartoonish at times and it kinda put me off his character, but as a whole I liked it a lot. It's a long-ass movie though.

Patty Jenkins wrote and directed 1984.

For the first film she directed a movie written by Allan Heinberg and Zack Snyder.

Not that the script was particularly strong in the first movie either, but at least the plot was coherent.

Boomerang:

Okay, but, I'd say it works better as a romance movie than a comedy. Grace Jones and John Witherspoon (RIP, I didn't know he died in 2019 until today) were funnier than Eddie Murphy in this one for me. I liked his neighbor, and ex, who was always shouting over the fence trying to fuck up his dates too.

Dude, you gotta have better things to do with your time...

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie- Still awesome as hell although the badguys motivation make very little sense. I appreciate the animation more and more over time since everything is all digital now.

I dunno, watching DVDs is a hell of a lot better than finishing working on my taxes, no matter how bad the movies are!
