Is there a specific term for this kind of behavior?
Some ICD definition from the WHO?
The buying fills some emotional hole in his life. Then there's the gratification of ownership, which in his case is short-lived. And then he dumps them, and repeats the cycle with another console. And probably with some other non-video game collectables as well if I had to guess.

I don't think the dumping is based on financial worry, because I recall seeing in this thread that he sold a big stack of his neo games to a brick and mortar shop earlier this year. So he likely broke even at best, or possibly took a loss in that deal.

He seems to thrive on the attention he receieves via social media as well. Would he be doing this if he couldn't video and photo the process to share it with internet strangers? Somehow I doubt it.

Idk, the whole thing seems very unhealthy. But there are certainly much worse ways that people deal with their emotional issues, so whatever.

The guy is a veteran, nothing wrong with that but he’s got a foot/leg missing I assume from in the line of duty.

This buying and selling is just giving him an endorphin rush. In the same way a lot of people do with drugs, hookers and blow. I actually feel a small amount of pity for him.

It’s definitely sad AF, but doesn’t really hurt anyone. I doubt one chode’s antics is enough to actually make a movement on the price of neo games.

Yall are reading too deep into this.

Dudes after clout, attention, and most of all, money.

It blows my mind that people use video games as some sort of clout or status symbol, but that’s basically what’s going on here.

TLDR: mental illness and con artist.

He made a video about that a couple of years ago. They were mooring in Korea and a tug boat kept tugging at a rope. essentially ripping of his foot and some fingers. yikes.

Well hi there <3

btw what is the supposed phsychological effect here of having your mug plastered on all thumbnails?

I guess it is a marketing trick so that people can remember your face and hit you in it in real life?

The YouTube algorithm ranks you higher the more extreme your facial expressions are in the thumbnail. No, I’m not joking.

The algorithm bases it on the CTR (click through ratio). It starts by testing the CTR on the channel's subscribers before suggesting the video to a wider audience. It's been shown that thumbnails with a human face are more likely to get clicks. It's human nature. Though the effect has diminished somewhat over time due to overuse.

I have found youtube will recommend me a video that doesn't have a person in the thumbnail and sometimes I think "why is it recommending this?", and then I click on it, and realize it's a channel I've watched before. if the person put themselves in the video and the thumbnail, it's easier to make that connection than try and remember channel names and avatars.
