They did with PS4 to PS4 Pro. PS4 and PS5 are basically the same console with updated specs.
Noo it must be wildly bespoke and difficult to develop for, and even more expensive!!

Watches hardware presentation expecting to view software releases
I'm not talking about the presentation. I'm talking about the industry as a whole.

The quality of games this generation is no different to the rest. We go through this every time, you asshats have been saying it since the PS3 18yrs ago.

What's the correlation here, oh. You're all 18yrs older and give less of a shit now, give us back our disc read errors, loading times and lack of RGB please! They were the good old times

Max was on YouTube during his "reaction" video and said the price would be justified if it had a disc drive that could read ps1-5 discs and play them all.

That's the type of weird old head goob demands that noone else wants. Yes let's design an optical drive with multiple lasers in 2024 for about five people and despite the fact we actually manufacture optical drives even we are finding it hard to find parts and optical media died fucking years ago anyway.

Yes giving away the ability to own and play games on a physical format is definitely the way to go.

Sony would never screw over their userbase, raise subscriptions, change their tiers, or promote game sales (even though they would be saving over traditional distribution)

Selling your games and recouping costs is so 2000s, it's better to pay full price on a digital distribution you can never sell, trade or recover if you have account issues

Moving 3 feet and raising your arms to grab a game off the shelf and THEN having to put it in a disc drive is so exhausting, what is this 2014?

This is a great time to be a gamer, and I have every trust that the corporate heads at Sony or MS have my best interests in mind.
I can only hope in addition to scoring my PRO system (don't worry, this time we will get 60FPS/@4k) I'll be able to get my add-on stand so I can squat the entire system up my own ass.

You know that bit I actually believe because the PS5 Pro reveal video was promising 4k at 120 fps which is clearly dog shit unless it’s running Quake 2 RTX.

As they alway over promise and deliver half, I think we will get 4k at 60 fps, probably.

I know it’s not true for when you play your favourite N64 games on Switch online, but most disc games work fine offline.

That's not what I'm saying. Read my post again. I'm talking about mid-cycle hardware upgrades. Not price changes across generations.

PS4 = $400
PS4 Slim = $300
PS4 Pro = $400

That's a $100 price drop for the same hardware and a $0 price increase for upgraded hardware.

PS5 = $500
PS5 Slim = $500
PS5 Pro = $700

That's a $0 price drop for the same hardware and a $200 price increase for upgraded hardware.
So Sony should sell the PS5 Pro for $500? What about the cost and inflation?

People saying $700 (close to $800 with tax) is completely reasonable are really out of touch. Their sense of what is reasonable has been warped by decades of collecting overpriced junk.

If Sony had any actual competition this wouldn't be happening (remember the PS1 undercutting the Saturn by $100?) but the Xbox is pretty much dead and the Switch is for an almost completely different demographic. So their only real competition is a gaming PC. If they thought they could get away with it they would have priced this thing at $999.99 but they know at that price point you might as well just go all in and spend the extra money to get a gaming PC because there are fuck all for PS5 exclusives.

Young adults don't have disposable income like they used to and they're spending what little they do have on graded Pokemon cards and Door Dash. Families sure as shit aren't going to spend $800 on something for their kids that also requires a subscription to play online and expensive ass games. That basically leaves actual adults with a decent amount of disposable income, most of whom already bought an earlier model PS5. So that leaves an even smaller demographic.

I mean at least significantly price drop the older models, that'll at least move units and grow the install base.

The thing I can't get over though is the fact that they haven't properly redesigned the damn thing, it's like they intentionally made it even uglier.

Scalpers have already cleaned out all of the disc drives in Australia.

What pc exclusives are there? It just seems like 5yr old bad console ports lol

I'll take a ps5 pro over a windows gaming pc any damn day of the week. I'm not interested in the disc drive so when the black covers are out I might upgrade just to remove the pain of choosing performance or fidelity mode.

But then I play games about once a year so eh
