Because the GPU will break in three years. Then it will be outdated so it will be time to upgrade. But no one upgrades because you're limited by your mobo, so then you need to buy a whole new $1500 system.
I'm guessing your GPU and Mobo are out of date in your PC-88? :timid:

I think PC is a great use case - especially for an all-in-one digital video game collection. It really is the ultimate "backward compatibility" machine. If you're just chasing after the latest ray tracing technology you'll of course get caught in the same silly capitalist scam that tells you to upgrade your cell phone every year.

Been a PC gamer for 15 years, on my third "rig" and all my old rigs and GPUs are still working (I use my prior rig as my home/office PC for design work and a buddy still has my first rig around for an emulation station and it's running a 12 year old GPU).

Just look at what Prince Harry wears. Kernow buys the same brands and plays polo instead of PC.

I'm picturing one of those frilly Little Lord Fauntleroy button-downs like Morrissey used to wear in the 80s.

IMO, PC gaming has come a long way from the 90/2000s.
It's almost on par with consoles.
I say almost because it feels different.
To me, the experience if you will, just isn't as satisfying.
It's getting better by the day and things like the steam deck are bringing it closer.

Um buy a better mobo? Also, lol at your GPU breaking after three years... Are you anti PC people so out of touch that you believe this shit?

The reason I prefer consoles is because I put the game in and it plays. No need to tweak settings, meet hardware requirements, etc.

If I had a PC that could play any game any time whenever I want without me having to upgrade or downgrade settings, I'd probably be a pure PC gamer.

This is the main reason I'm happy with my PS5. It has, performance wise, exceeded my expectations. Love that machine.

But it's really just a PS4 Ultramarine Pro. A Primaris Station 4, if you will.

Been busy this week and missed much of this conversation.

On topic - I don't think that $700 is unreasonable for a "premium" console experience - especially for the convenience of having a more powerful platform that "just works" over a PC which requires a different temperament to get the most out of. There will be plenty of people willing to shell out for it. I'm not the target market for this device, but I'm sure it will still sell a decent amount.

What I do think is a huge misstep by Sony is not including a disc drive. I don't know the numbers for how many folks own a disc-based PS5 versus digital, but for anyone with a physical PS5 game library, Sony has alienated them by forcing them to re-purchase a game they already own physically to reap the benefits or spend an additional $100 for a disc drive.

Then again, I'm not a corporation who spends millions in marketing dollars on focus group testing to make these sorts of decisions so... 🤷‍♂️

You can beat Ninja Gaiden Black.

But can't edit an .ini or change settings in a PC game.
