I finished the Expanse recently. Great show if you’re a fan of the genre. The only part that was kind of a bummer is how they abruptly killed off a character whose actor was #metoo’d after filming.

Finished Shogun on Monday. Loved every minute of it. Well worth the time I invested into it.

Has anyone here watched Devs? I hadn't even heard of it before today. Fucking hulu. I want to watch it, but I'm not signing up to that shit again. Not sure if they even have it on Japanese hulu anyway.

EVIL- So this is pitched as The X-Files meets The Exorcist and The DaVinci Code. It's not any of that. What it actually is is a high concept "wine mom" religious/supernatural mystery that feels very much like a C grade network show that would rightfully be canceled after 2 seasons. It's just awful and cartoonishly dumb. Like it's literally Supernatural starring a wine mom, made for wine moms. Turned it off halfway through the second episode.

DUDE. It's fucking awesome, to the point where I'm not even gonna do my editing of a swear word if the subject doesn't deserve it.

Devs is probably my favorite tv show of the past half-decade or so. It's Garland and then some. The actual title itself is a swerve.

I don't want to ruin any of it for you, but absolutely do watch it.

edit: also, 8 Show on Netflix is pretty good. Liking how the crazy just casually ramps up after the midway point and everyone's like sure.

If any of y'all missed Scavenger's Reign on HBO Max last year, it's on Netflix now. Really, really good show.

8 Show's ending was retarded. I suppose Korean shows aren't expensive but yeesh.

Anyway, I am really digging Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, it's like they took great horror movie tropes and made a series with a bunch of hot multi-cultural/multi-orientation young ladies out of them and then never ever killed anyone. Okay that last note is my sticking point, the cast is great, writing is solid, love the callbacks to [WB-only obs] horror movies from Tabby, and then no one ever gets killed. It's good, really good, don't get me wrong, but it would be better if a major character, honestly probably one of the main five, had been killed to establish some stakes. My guess is that they're doing one more season of it and that there will finally be some kills at that point but really, there have been at least two solid points in this season where they could have killed off one of two candidates and made stakes up a bit. And, fuck me, but I think the visual on Bloody Rose is still gonna be a swerve to make her be
Spoiler:
Dr. Sullivan wearing a mask made by Christian. It's established that he's insanely good at making masks, and stretching believability to the limit has pretty much been established as normal in the show. The credits say that the actress playing BR is not Gish but the face sure looks like her, it's gonna be her].

Edit, jesus this show, I forgot that there are two villains in this season, one proper Bloody Rose and one, whoever the fuck else that they mentioned at some point. Similar to OS I guess, kind of cheating but whatever. It's Dr. Sullivan, Kelly (or her mom) and Christian. MUCH less sure about that last part than everything else, they tend to do this. Really do love the show though I should stop complaining.

Finally got around to checking out Shogun and wasn't disappointed. It's not incredible or anything but it's surprisingly solid for an FX original period piece set in Japan. The guy that played Anjin was serviceable but he only seems to have two modes of acting and the swings between acting like a normal human and throwing tantrums and hysterically berating everyone are kind of cringe. The rest of the cast was excellent though, particularly Tadanobu Asano. He's perfect as usual. They did a great job with the sets and cultural details though there's some pretty cheap looking CG but whatever. Highly enjoyable overall, makes me want to replay Ghost Of Tsushima lol.

Shogun will be the first show in a while to beat HBO's stuff at the Emmys. Very damn good bizarre camera focusing aside which the showrunners have strenuously defended.

House of the Dragon is about a thousand times better already in season 2, who woulda thought that having 2 main protags and 2 main villains would help things out. Fun also to place bets on which dragons are fucking toast first, I mean, there's thirteen right for now?

And, okay, just to comment on it... PLL... had proper horror movie setup for, Jesus, two seasons in a row, pretty r-rated, and then it did this gay bullshit with a total no-kill bad villain cop-out. It is indeed a show for 20-year-old ladies. It just doesn't seem like those people would be the ones that would get Attack the Block The Thing and a few other deep cut Warners horror references.

It was fucking awful, admittedly. Them ladies still pretty damn hot though, and srsly none of them even close to their characters' ages.

Watching this on a whim, didn't know anything about it beforehand.

James Franco is unnervingly happy with an endless grin on his shaven face - he needs the beard back. The love interest, Sarah Gadon, is cock achingly hot and vulnerable, it's like Stephen King wrote Franco a future victim.

The premise is totally daft and nobody at any point, ever, does anything that anyone would do in any of the situations. Every decision is so absurd that it must be done knowingly, but I don't know to what end.

It's stupid time travel nonsense and a bit crap, but I do enjoy the sets. I can see why 1950's into 60's America is so often visited, it looks like a great time to be alive. Nobody ever even talks about 1950's UK, the contrast must have made America seem almost otherworldly.

Hate to be that guy, but the book is way better.

First part of the final season of Cobra Kai dropped today. This one will be 15 episodes instead of the normal 10, so they're dropping 3 different sets of 5 episodes each.

Gonna check at least the first episode out tonight.

Halo is canceled.

Guess they realized how bad they fucked it up when compared to Last of Us and Fallout.

Thank the Forerunners. What an absolute shitshow. I honestly completely forgot about the 2nd season and didn't even waste bandwidth to pirate it.

Am I the only one still watching The Boys?

…yes?

Yes.

Probably a good think season 5 will be the last.

Yeah I gave up last season. It just, i dunno. I like Karl Urban and all, and Jack Quaid only gets a pass because of Boimler, regardless of who is daddy is. But it was like tryharding with the gore and stuff.

That sounds super prudish, honestly I know, even though it's not meant as such. I just lost interest in it. So is the current season the last, or is there one more?

Kiteman: Hell Yeah

Its fucking Kiteman from the Harley Quinn show. I never knew how much I'd love a 90th tier DC villain as much as I do Kiteman now.

Also to my absolute astonishment - Lance Reddick voices Luthor, at least in the first episode. I don't remember if he did in the Harley show (just looked, it was Giancarlo Esposito, which is also a win). Holy shit I got sad when I heard his voice. RIP Lance. You were such an awesome actor.

sidebar: No other portrayal of Bane will ever top the one from the Harley Quinn show universe. Like seriously if Bane ever makes an appearance in "The Batman 5" or whatever version of Batman ends up in the GunnDCU - it HAS to be voiced by James Adomian, in the same style - without question. I will accept no alternatives.**********

There will be a season 5.

Though Gen V is arguably season 3.5 in that it sets up a crucial plot point for season 4.

It’s not as necessary to watch as say Book of Boba Fett was to the Mando story.

And yeah boys season 3 really went overboard with gross gore and/or sex shit. Was just shock for the sake of shock. Very little of that in S4. There is a scene where Homelander literally rips a dude in half from shoulder to crotch and it’s pretty gross, but at least serves a point.

He wears dope old school hip-hop themed shirts in pretty much every episode.

I gave up on the show last season, knew it was in trouble the minute they introduced Homelander's kid. There are some clever ideas and it's occasionally pretty funny but it really is edge lord nonsense with no redeemable characters.

The Boys to me is practically made for TikTok. I will never sit down and watch a whole episode, but scenes like Homelander hitting the blind supe in the ears, him lasering a whole crowd in his daydream, etc., yeah I can watch that while doomscrolling at 1AM. Was there any explanation for why season 4 took two years to come out?

Geez, I just remembered Invincible season 2 came and went with barely a fart. There's a good example of such a long wait between seasons that killed all its momentum.
