SVU is still on the air?
I think at this point they get more for each episode they produce just in syndication and streaming backend revenues than it costs to make the show. To say nothing of the actual ad/sponsor revenue the show generates when it actually airs. It's one of those shows that will keep going for as long as they can keep most of the creatives/cast together, and even then, they'll replace as many as they can before they actually let it die.

Kaos- This is try-hard hipster junk that doesn't know what genre it's supposed to be and is also a blatant ripoff of The Good Place. I was willing to give this a shot because of Jeff Goldblum playing Zeus and the whole Greek mythology angle but man it just does not work. Goldblum is great and that's it. The show is nowhere near as clever as it thinks it is and the Greek mythology in some sort of contemporary setting is really sloppy and superficial. It also has severe pacing issues that just come off as self indulgent. The music is also insufferable, like it's intrusively bad millennial coffee shop folk rock every couple of minutes.

It also just strikes me as a cheap gimmick to use all of this mythology as a loose setting for a shitty hipster rom-com and disregard most of the established relationships and backstory. You know the actual mythology. Though I imagine 99% of the people watching it won't know enough to care.

Thanks for the heads up. I was about to give this a try. I don't even like The Good Place, I'm sure I'd hate something that was trying to be it. That thought The Good Place was something to aspire to.

I actually disliked Kaos so much I kept thinking about it quite a bit afterwards. There was just something really unoriginal and off that I couldn't quite put my finger on and it finally clicked the other day. The 1996 Romeo & Juliette, it's that mixed with The Happy Place. Except instead of all the modernized stuff being from 16th century England it's Greek Mythology. It's even got that flamboyant drag show level of fashion and camp.

TGP is leagues more watchable than this smug dreck. At least that show knew it's limitations.

My wife and I went through the entire Big Bang Theory through July right up to the last day of August. I'd cook dinner, she would finish work, then we'd sit down and watch a few episodes. It was bliss. It was living as a real life human being.

I am currently on the lookout for another whitebread show to watch with her.

I'm so out of the loop with TV, last night I found out Futurama is back...and has been so since last year.

I dunno. To me, it's overhyped to the same level and in the same way as the equally unwatchable Big Bang Theory.
Oh I'm not saying it's a great or even good show (It's not as bad as BBT though) just that it's far more original and watchable than Kaos. It's definitely a low bar and Kaos is several notches below that.

That's fucking depressing dude.

Next it's going to be Everybody Loves Raymond and Friends.

I guess that's better than MILF Manor or 90 Day Fiancee or shit like that but not by much.

This is a wild statement to me.

Absolutely wild.

I too wouldn’t touch Big Bang Theory with a ten-foot pole. But I think The Good Place is excellent.

To each their own, I guess.

I think it’s acceptable for ‘Sage to watch some white ass Americana while Living in China.

He should put on a better show, though, like Married With Children.

It wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be. I didn't give a shit about the pop culture references. The characters and their relationships, as well as their growth over 12 years, was the gravy. I guess this show is a guilty pleasure except I don't feel guilty about it. The actors were all excellent in their roles and if you changed even one of them who knows if the show would still be as successful as it was.

A surprising amount of humor is dated in the same way rape jokes are dated. At times it was just one step from sleazy 80s sex comedies.

Genius move to never mention the word autism or autistic in reference to Sheldon, for multiple reasons. Plausible deniability.

More than anything though, like I said, the best part was just stepping back from dat 996 life, eating dinner and watching something together with my wife. Last thing we watched together was Game of Thrones. Jesus

If you haven't already, check out Schitt's Creek. It gets a little on the nose with fagitry toward the ened but its Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara which is always a winning combo. Its almost like an extended version of a Chris Guest movie.

A few months back I watched the Monarch series on Apple TV. The Godzilla spinoff. Don't know if I brought it up before.

It is gay. As gay as a show can be.

And awful.

The worldbuilding was pretty interesting.

But there isn't a single character I like in it except for Kurt Russel's character. He was cool. Both the old version and the young one. They should have just made it about him. And Godzilla.

But that's it.

The rest of the characters can eat the whole bag of dicks.

Damn, Kurt’s in it? I kinda want to see it now. Maybe in 5 years when Apple TV has like 4 good shows I can binge over a month lol.

Yeah, I get that but like you said almost anything would be better.

Like 3rd Rock From The Sun or something like that if you're going for hokey network sitcom stuff.

Sage also wasn't even in this country when BBT was literally everywhere, it was like The Walking Dead and Family Guy. You just couldn't get away from it for years. The only good thing to come out of BBT is this:

They both come off as though they think they're a lot smarter than they are.
Damn, Kurt’s in it?
AND his son. Who plays Kurt Russel's character in the past. I haven't seen this, and don't plan to get apple+ any time ever. But a little curious.

That’s fair.

I can definitley see someone seeing it as a bunch of pseudo intellectual bullshit.

But I think The Good Place actually has heart, some good laughs, and it doesn’t overstay its welcome. It has a truly excellent series finale that wraps the whole up.

It’s definitely in my top 5 shows.

On par with Big Bang Theory though? Yikes.

Maybe @LoneSage should watch Bones, lmao.

Watched the first couple episodes of Severance and found it enjoyable so far. I've always liked Adam Scott, he's a great everyman type and always comes across far more relatable than people like Paul Rudd that Hollywood is always forcing on us. The supporting cast is all really good as well. I really like the basic premise and general vibe of the show. It really conveys a nice sense of asphyxiating corporate sterility and office bureaucracy taken to the extreme, with a nice dash of nightmare inducing AI undertones thrown in for good measure. It's also really funny, the non-dinner dinner party scene was legitimately hilarious. I'll be interested to see where it goes and hopefully it'll get some sort of actual conclusion but I won't hold my breath since you know, it's a streaming series. There's nothing streaming services like doing more than canceling promising shows. Gotta make room in the slop chamber for the content machine.

I quite liked the premier ep of The Penguin. First of all, my god, Colin Farrell has to be in quite the fat suit/latex there. That waddle, all of it, that's some work. Christin Milioti, also, nice, she pulls off menacing and also maybe crazy very well. Apparently there will be zero shots of The Batman in this, which is kind of ballsy on Reeves and co's part, but also pretty cool. Joker 2 looks fucking retarded, but Reeves, yeah, I'm in on his stuff over maydays at Marvel.

The Terror (Season 1)- I watched a couple episodes of this when it was originally airing and then just kind of lost interest for some reason. I have heard a couple people mention it positively since it's showed up on Netflix so I thought I'd give it another shot. I actually had no idea it was an anthology series and that the other season(s) are totally separate stories.

It's an interesting but extremely flawed show. It has an absolutely incredible cast, some outstanding performances and nice production values. (Aside from one thing in particular) The premise is also just really cool. The famous Franklin Expedition to find the Northwest Passage has a lot of potential for a horror story. It starts off really well and has excellent character development but it shows it's hand too early then bounces between a couple different types of horror and culminates in an unbelievably dumb mess that just does not work. I have to give props to the actor that played Hickey though, he is an amazingly despicable character but what they do with him in the last couple episodes is really, really dumb. Everything just goes completely off the rails and not in a satisfying or interesting way.

There is also some absolutely embarrassing CG for a certain element that for some reason they decide to introduce much earlier than they need to and then double down on by showing it a lot. It's honestly baffling why they would choose to do this and that it was approved at any step of the process.

Honestly I think it's still worth watching for the incredibly strong performances and unique setting but be aware that there are some serious issues. It's like some weird combination of Master & Commander, The Edge and Saint Maude.
