Problem is Dame isn't a free agent. He was a free agent last year and then he signed a huge extension. Now he's trying to dictate his destination. The time to choose your destination was last year.

He's still in his prime and Portland drafted a point guard. Blazers already rebuilt before his trade request. Poor players don't care if they just signed shit. He wasn't one of those guys were I expected that.

The situation is a lot different in Portland than it was when he signed that contract. He thought they were trying to compete then and was probably given assurances that they were going to build a team around him to be a championship contender. Now they've drafted a big prospect at his position and have made it clear they're in rebuild mode. If franchises are allowed to shift their priorities and long-term commitments based on results, so are players.

Situation isn't that different, they didn't make the playoffs with a future Hall of Famer. I already wrote that rebuild mode stuff. NBA stars nowadays sign a multi year max contract and demand a trade one year later. The worst thing is that they will end where they want.

Nugs roster is almost complete. Signed 6'8" PF Braxton Key to a two-way deal. Just one two-way spot remains. Hopefully they use it on a center.

The current 17

PG: Jamal Murray, Reggie Jackson, Jalen Pickett, Collin Gillespie
SG: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Christian Braun, Justin Holiday, Julian Strawther
SF: Michael Porter Jr., Peyton Watson, Hunter Tyson
PF: Aaron Gordon, Zeke Nnaji, Vlatko Cancar, Braxton Key
C: Nikola Jokic, DeAndre Jordan

Nugs signed 7'2" center Jay Huff to their final two-way spot. He won G-League defensive player of the year last year. The roster is now set.

SG: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Christian Braun, Justin Holiday, Julian Strawther
SF: Michael Porter Jr., Peyton Watson, Hunter Tyson
PF: Aaron Gordon, Zeke Nnaji, Vlatko Cancar, Braxton Key

Suns trade Cam Payne for a sack of peanuts to the Spurs.

Ayton and Booker are now the only remaining players left from their 2021 Finals appearance.

Shams is reporting y'all are going to run Beal and Goodwin as your 1/2 point guards. Suns about to be the most iso-ass iso team of all time.

beal can play off ball. he just stopped.
The main problem is they'll have little to no playmaking. It's just gonna be Beal's turn, then Booker's turn, then Durant's turn, then Ayton's turn, then Gordon's turn, etc. They don't have a true point guard. They don't have an elite ball handler.

Given all the smoke before his extension, I'm really surprised just how many people Ayton outlasted in Phoenix

Turns out when your coach and GM call a guy out in public for being a quitter and an idiot it reduces their trade value.

If only there were some way they could've known before they did that.

Wild, isn't it? And depending on how he performs in this new system, he may not be long for the team come mid-season.

I really think Phoenix is going to suffer from not having a Chris Paul level playmaker on the team, particularly with so much offense in the starting line-up with a defensively minded coach. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I mean do it now while you can. When the new CBA kicks in next year, you straight up can't go past the 2nd salary cap acquiring FAs barring a couple of minimums to fill out the roster. It'll be interesting to see how that affects team composition when even having two max guys basically cripples your ability to improve in free agency unless they're players you drafted.

The main penalty for the 2nd apron is once you're over it, your draft pick in the season 7 years later is frozen (meaning you can't trade it). And if you're over the 2nd apron in 3 out of any 5 years, your already frozen picks are automatically moved to the end of the 1st round. So teams can be over the 2nd apron for a year or two, but nobody is going to want to be over it 3 of 5 years. If you do you torpedo your franchise for a decade or more.

That's why the Nuggets are betting on so many young guys (10/18 dudes on their roster have played under 164 career regular season and playoff games); they are trying to get one last year under the 2nd apron next year because in 2 years Murray is due for a max extension (or supemax if he makes All-NBA this year). When that happens they'll have 2 more seasons before they have to start dumping guys like Porter, KCP, and Gordon to get under the apron.

Trade him to the Suns for Ayton. Might as well with all the other insane trades and acquisitions the team has done since Durant.

Just pay billions in luxury tax. Totally worth it.
Embiid, Durant, and Beal on the same team?

They'd somehow miss 400 games per season.
