Her converting to Islam while heavily tattooed and openly bisexual might already be considered a suicide attempt.

Sure, but it was more than that. She'd struggled with mental health issues since at least her 20s if not earlier. At one point diagnosed bipolar, which has a pretty high suicide rate. It's also something that can be passed down, which means it could also very likely be behind the son's suicide. At some later point she said doctors had rediagnosed her, and it wasn't actually bipolar but borderline personality disorder, which is even worse.
