Plus, fami thinks he "wins" simply if a sequel gets greenlit. Nothing about it actually getting made. And yes, movies get "greenlit" but then canceled all the time. So that's some horseshit.
Warner Bros/Legendary’s Dune continued its spicy run at the international box office this weekend, adding a further $26.3M from 32 markets to lift the offshore total to $76.5M. To quote the Denis Villeneuve-directed film, this is only the beginning as the sci-fi epic is in early overseas release with many key areas to come. The overall drop from opening was a terrific 32%.
In like-for-like markets and at today’s rates, the world-building saga is running ahead of all comps from Tenet (+12%) to Black Widow (+49%), Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings (+64%), Blade Runner 2049 (+73%) and Godzilla Vs Kong (+87%).
New this session were Middle East hubs with the UAE taking in $1M and coming +68% ahead of Villeneuve’s 2017 Blade Runner. Saudi Arabia produced $969K, tracking on par with Free Guy (Saudi is the fifth biggest market overall on the latter film). Great individual holds were seen in such markets as Netherlands (-12%), Denmark (-17%), Finland (-22%) and Germany (-23%).
Dune held No. 1s in all majors where it has released: Russia, France, Germany, Italy and Spain — and is throwing off strong numbers in those markets with holds better than -40%. The Top 5 to date are Russia ($15M), France ($13.4M), Germany ($10.2M), Italy ($5.1M) and Spain ($4.9M).
I read that both Netflix and Apple both offered MGM somewhere around $500-$600 million for it and MGM wasn't interested. I guess studio execs get paid to be gamblers, not risk managers. The last two Bond movies did a combined two billion dollars so they spent big on this one and got hosed by the pandemic.
Of course there will be more Bond no matter what. This one will do impressive numbers regardless, they just may have set the bar out of reach.
I think it will do more than 600 million for sure. It's just nuts that they could make 600 million at the box office and still lose several hundred million on it.I read that both Netflix and Apple both offered MGM somewhere around $500-$600 million for it and MGM wasn't interested. That's one thing Villeneuve has always had a knack for. Blade Runner 2049 was only 20 million more than that and Arrival was only 47 million total. One thing I will say about Dune is that what we've seen so far makes the movie look dang impressive for 165 million.
He has said he has already completed drafts for the sequel's script and is still working on it and hopes to do Messiah as well. He said Warner has told him that HBO Max streaming will be a factor and that he'll know by December whether he will get to film the sequel, and he'll be ready to start filming by the middle of next year.I don’t think Villy is even interested in working with Warners at this point. Even if they decide to go with the next chapter, it may be a troglodytic half sibling of the first.
The thing is fammy, lad...He has said he has already completed drafts for the sequel's script and is still working on it and hopes to do Messiah as well. That of a child, right? I mean none of those Dune arguments above matter to someone who liked or disliked the film. That's about the only thing that counts and it's 100% subjective. I'll definitely give it a chance, but seeing who's on the screenwriter team does not add up to my excitement. Spaihts did Prometheus to less than average results and Roth should hang for The Postman but I'll do my best not to be biased. We are witnessing the deconstruction of a man
I don't know why Daniel Craig is quitting as Bond. It will be hard for anyone to take over from him. He's the same age as Connery was when he did his last Bond movie, but looks younger than Connery did at that age.The last two Bond movies did a combined two billion dollars so they spent big on this one and got hosed by the pandemic.

Probably has something to do with box office expectations being more important than having fun. The Craig bond movies are full of action and suspense, but not really fun at all. Can’t think of any of his movies I want to watch again.I don't know why Daniel Craig is quitting as Bond. It will be hard for anyone to take over from him. Connery and Craig were the best Bonds IMO, and Lazenby was good also.
I would agree, I can't fault Craig's acting as Bond, but the story writing in some of the recent Bond movies wasn't as good as that for the Connery films- not as engaging for the audience. Also, Connery had more humor than Craig.Probably has something to do with box office expectations being more important than having fun. Craig was wooden in Knives Out (a comedy, that’s why I bring it up). He’s a male model, but not really an actor.I would agree, I can't fault Craig's acting as Bond, but the story writing in some of the recent Bond movies wasn't as good as that for the Connery films- not as engaging for the audience. Casino Royale and Skyfall were fairly good, Quantum of Solace and Spectre, not so much.
FtfyEverything including Casino Royale was garbage.
