Anyway... Justified City Primeval is indeed pretty fucking dumb (my spellcheck just tried to go w "fucking duck" so maybe so yeah) - it's too damn cartoony. Don't know how else to say it. Kinda skates on the stars' charisma (for FUCKING REAL that scene with Vondie supposedly 30 years younger, WTF), but then it's just so incredibly dumb that it pushes the limits. Honestly, Holbrook is more like an MCU villain that gets too much pussy than anything else (oh wait he was just sans pussy in Logan let's go back to that!). He's so dumb otherwise. Maybe that's not so bad though, Adelaide Clemens is indeed kinda hot.

Also, somewhat though not entirely separate from the former... what in the actual fuck was the point of Willa? Raylan sucks as a dad? Duh. I assume it's in the novel (no I'm really not gonna read it), but even if, it was SO FUCKING DUMB to incorporate it like they did here. Show is fine as a way to burn some time in the strike but it is utter shit otherwise.
I told you man. It's fucking awful.

And then...[...]... they take 15 fucking minutes to reassure us that there will be another season featuring Boyd Crowder. And probably Willa and maybe her mom.

And it was again, just so cartoony.

Mansell had maybe 10 or 15 minutes dedicated to explaining his entire reason for being a completely evil motherfucker?

Boyd was pretty multi-layered by the end of the original run IIRC, but here it just felt like he's being retconned to fit the feel of the new low-IQ one. Olyphant is fun in some roles, including Raylan. Goggins is good in some roles including the original incarnation of Boyd Crowder. But somehow I am not in the least interested in seeing them together again any time in the near future.

So with the total lack in anything resembling quality in recent streaming series I decided to go back and watch a couple classic that I never really had the chance to get into.

Kolchak- I have seen both the made for TV movies but never the actual series. This is often cited as one of the main inspirations for The X-Files and I can certainly see the elements that Chris Carter would use a couple decades later. But it's still very much a classic 70s detective show just with a monster of the week theme. Darrin McGavin is great as Kolchak and there are some fun guest stars but the show is very inconsistent and it's easy to see why it was canceled so quickly. Perhaps a bit ahead of it's time and maybe also a little too hokey for it's own good but there's still some excellent episodes.

The Rockford Files- Part of the holy trinity of TV detective shows along with Columbo and Magnum PI and deservingly so. James Garner is great, the car chases are solid and the guest stars are fantastic. It's easy to see why this was so popular. I've only watched a few episodes of this so far but it's very enjoyable.

Rockford Files is pretty much the best adaptation of Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe ever produced, and it isn't even an adaptation.

Plus it popularized the J-Turn (also referred to as "The Rockford"), which Garner performed himself, having had stunt driving training. I don't think insurance would allow a series lead actor to do this himself today.

Started Raised By Wolves - I hadn't heard anything about it and was blown away by the first couple of episodes. I'm on episode 7 now and starting to lose patience as it disappears up it's own anus.

It's a tv show about the end of civilisation, two warring factions arriving at a new planet with no way to survive, alien native species and flying androids that can make people explode by screaming, but no, that's not enough for a story apparently, so now it's got all ethereal and supernatural. It's just too much, unnecessarily, in my lazy brained opinion. Going to finish the season though, it still has its moments.

Just stop now. Seriously. End of the first season is retarded, and that continues on for the second one. Makes no sense and then it was cancelled.

Pretty sad, this show had all the elements to be something epic.

There's not going to be very much for new movies and TV here for awhile because of the strikes

I saw Wheel of Time season 2 is out now (PUKE)
I'll need to stay strong

I couldn't get through that. I haven't read the books but I know the general story, (bro in law read them all and talks... a lot).

He did tell me that one super important character to the story gets killed off in the first season lol

What are these people thinking. The story is right.there lol you don't need to modify it.

Welcome to Wrexham is back on - I dunno, it was boring I think? I re-watched about half of the first season over the course of FX's various marathons in the past week or so, and it still holds up as fun to watch, roughly zero friction to enjoy it.

Then The Ringer, of all places, posts an article about how fucked up the show and the concept actually is [luckily WtW is NOT ON MAX so it's okay], and I go, huh, maybe a valid point or two in there. And a blah opener where the main point is meeting King Charles with strict rules against recording audio.

Not a good pitch for Hulu guys.

I never liked Hard Knocks for most of the same reasons I'm starting to doubt WtW.

One Piece- This is shockingly good. After Netflix shit all over Bebop my expectations were unbelievably low for this. I am not a fan of the manga or the anime but from what little I have seen this manages to be incredibly accurate. On paper none of it should work in live action but somehow it's so bizarre and so fully realized it manages to take all the elements that should make it a disaster and use them to it's benefit. The cast is great, it looks good, the pacing is incredible and it just has a sense of fun and adventure that makes it hard to not like it.

I'm sure Oda retaining a good amount of creative control helps considerably but everyone involved seems to understand fundamentally what makes the original work and somehow they brought it to life.

I don't know if Netflix can maintain all of this long term but I'm 3 episodes in and really enjoying it. It's a huge breath of fresh air compared to all the dull, pretentious, smug crap that's been coming out the last couple of years.

It's also surprisingly violent at times with a little bit of swearing so while it seems like it's for all ages it's probably not for little kids. One of the villains bashes someones head in with a spiked club and has one of the main characters mop up the brain pulp in like the first 10 minutes.

Been hearing a lot about this show. I honestly currently have zero interest in it, but I did try watching the anime last year and I made it maybe 2 episodes in and was like yeah this isnt for me.

It just reminded me a lot of a spongebobified Naruto, which I also gave up on after maybe half a season.

I actually thought it was a movie until the other day. Seeing as how you dont like he manga/anime but still liked it, maybe its worth a shot.

Doesn’t the anime have like 600 episodes? Lots of filler I hear.

They're well over 1000 episodes.

Bad manga, bad anime, not gonna watch the live action.

Kinda like Bleach. Ive tried a couple times to get into Bleach, and admittedly its interesting to me, (and that first theme song is titties) but when I realized theres like 97 seasons of the show I was like nah man.

Yet you watch every up it's own ass drawn out Star Wars thing Disney shits out. How are you not tired of that?

The One Piece Netflix show definitely isn't for everyone and I'm not saying it's amazing but it's just nice to get something fun and different from brooding superheroes, SW, murder porn and junk shows coasting on their umpteenth season.

Who knows maybe it'll go for 5 more seasons, maybe they'll shit the bed in season 2, maybe someone in the cast will pull an Ezra Miller. I'm just happy to be surprised by something new.

Some people who appear to be older (maybe some my own age) than me on Facebook I don't know were talking about Netflix Cowboy Bebop a few months ago. None of them seemed to have watched the original and they all loved it and were pretty depressed it got canceled.
Personally I still haven't watched it, I figure why mess with perfection? Plus I haven't had Netflix for awhile.

Anyways sometimes y'all nerds gotta ruin stuff for everybody else.

Stephen King's Storm of the Century- This is a 3 part mini-series from 1999, each part is feature length. This is often cited as the best King adaptation. That might be true but it's still a TV mini series and it's still based on a King story so it has all the problems inherent to both. The story is weak and predictable, there are way too many characters and it wastes a ton of time establishing all of them. So it might be the most accurate King adaptation but it certainly isn't the best. Also the incredibly bad New England accents don't help matters. I can see why King fans like it but it's honestly pretty mediocre even for a TV mini series of the time.

Stand By Me is up there too. Interesting that some of his best adaptations weren't even horror stories

A little late on this one but I just finished Gravity Falls. Loved it. A clever, fun all ages show that is perfectly self contained in 2 seasons. No filler, no pandering or dumbing down, no embarrassing lazy pop culture references or gags and no shoehorned in creator or network agenda. It looks good too, not amazing but they definitely put a lot of thought and effort into everything. This is up there with Home Movies, Mission Hill and the better seasons of Regular Show for me, it's really a gem.

A show like this makes all these new "adult" cartoons on streaming look absolutely pathetic. A conveyor belt of dumb, lazy, ugly, pandering junk just being cranked out and rightly forgotten.
