Star Wars, anything Marvel or DC, Dungeons & Dragon....I've disabused myself of the notion that the present curation of any of the IP of my childhood and adolescence is interested in respecting, preserving or cherishing their finer qualities. There are exceptions, of course. That's why I'm always so astonished to see something 'good' come from those things. It's not to be expected.
I still care about the old stuff. Very much so. I still have all my old movies, books, comics, etc. They will always be there for me to enjoy and share. But like you, I hold that there is a line of demarcation clearly separating what is good from what is not good. Anything that is on the other side of those Rubicons just isn't worth my time or energy. That doesn't mean NOTHING good can ever come from current interpretations. Of course it can. But I have a high bar and very little has met it where it concerns the properties of my youth. Even new Conan books are hit or miss, but I think most of them labor to remain 'true', in a sense, to Howard's vision despite not really needing to exist. the current Titan Books run by Zub, De La Torre, Brathwaite and crew are excellent and a highlight of my visits to my LCS.
It's all about honesty, I suppose. The new curators don't have to love it the way I do/did. They don't even have to like it. They just have to labor to respect what came before and not insult the property or my knowledge of them. Captain America was never a Nazi. Maybe don't do that. Xavier might disagree.
My rule is: you don't have to do what I want. Just don't do what you KNOW I DON'T want. This is why The Last Jedi is a crime that only God could forgive.
Whatever the fuck is going on with Star Wars right now....is a willful demolition of what I loved, what made me who I am today to some degree. There are no good intentions behind it and the agendas fueling this output are as insufferable as those creators' Twitter accounts.
I trust SNK will do a good job extending Fatal Fury's storyline. The gameplay is another thing. They still have my trust.
