LG NanoCell 95 Series 4K 65 inch Class Smart UHD NanoCell TV w/ AI ThinQ® (65SM9500PUA) (2019 Model)

Whatever all that means.

Purchased 8/13/20 for $999 plus tax to replace the last CRT I had, a Sony Wega KV-34HS420 that I paid I think $200 in 2007ish on craigslist. It died, was probably fixable but wife wanted to join the modern world.

Is it a good one? Fuck if I know, I'll still happily watch DVDs at 480p and whatever resolution regular streaming services use, but I later bought a soundbar with sub for it and have everything we need entertainment wise hooked up and it mostly isn't a pain in the ass to use. Prior to that, I paid $600 for a 32" LG LED in 2010 that is still functioning as a bedroom television that rarely gets turned on.

I'm chuckling as I remember working in Best Buy in 1999 and we couldn't get most of those motherfuckers to pay more than $300 for a TV.

Because most of those motherfuckers are normal people.

True, but even among normal people here paying $1000+ for a TV is becoming more of the norm instead of more expensive sets only being purchased by tech geeks. There are still plenty of people that only buy Black Friday specials though.

I think mine was $700 in about 2012? Still rocking to this day. It's "only" 1080p but with my shitty eyes I'd not benefit from 4k anyway.

I will say, not that long ago it was the big brands that dominated the TV space. Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, Samsung, etc.

Fast forward to today, and the TV landscape is basically just no-name Chinese bullshit.
TCL, Hisense, Vizio, Proscan, Onn and other horseshit that you find littered all over Amazon.

It's always a good laugh to scan Amazon for electronics where you find gay ass shit like Powkiddy, Vienon, Ugreen, Warrky, and iBirdie LOLZ!!!

It used to be a sign of prestige to buy a quality product. Now everyone's such a cheapass, they'll gladly and knowingly buy knockoff shit just to save a few pennies.

I've never bought anything other than Panasonic in the 6 or so TVs I've owned

I'd definitely buy another Panny if I was still in the UK, but unfortunately they don't seem to sell TVs in NA any more... so it'll have to be a Sony next.

I'm not buying any of that Chinese or Korean crap.

I've never spent much on a TV, I couldn't tell the difference in the electricals store so didn't see the point. My eyesight isn't brilliant, something I wasn't aware of until Blu-ray came out and everyone banged on about it, and I couldn't see the difference against a dvd. It's not that I need glasses (although that has since crept in over the years), it's just like my eyes are shitty lo-fi or something, fuck knows.

I'm like this too. Bring on the koalas but I even struggle to tell the difference between say an xbox one game and a high end pc/ps5/xbsx game. Sometimes even xbox 360 games fall into this for me.

£900 for 55 inch OLED LG in 2022. It does everything a £3k one from 2019 does, probably better tbh. I was happy not to pay first generation buyer tax.

LG's OLEDs are great. They are the primary tv line that has tempted me to upgrade. I also really like LG's interface.

Deepest black levels I've seen on a flat panel tv since plasmas were a thing

I still have a last gen Plasma Panasonic in my office. That was about $3,500 at the time. I still prefer this TV for movies.

I don't think I would spend more than $1,000 in today's market. I'm not going to use any of the smart apps on a new TV. I just need it to display my video source.
